Purpose

The engineer will solve complex electric substation problems, identify innovative solutions and efficiencies. Perform substation maintenance duties including planning, implementing preventive maintenance plans, develop equipment maintenance specifications and standards, perform analysis, able to work independently with some guidance from more experienced team members. Actively participates in industry associations such as Doble Committees, IEEE, EPRI, CEATI.

Responsibilities

•Develop substation equipment maintenance and testing plans using RCM methodology and condition based maintenance concepts.

•Perform moderately complex engineering analyses, design and calculations using standard methodology and principles. Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.

•Provide technical expertise for substation operations personnel and contractors to implement planned maintenance. Review equipment inspection and test results. Document and keep current accurate asset records to track equipment life cycle.

•Determines installation and operating requirements and evaluates new products, manufacturers and contractors and research new technology.

•Document and keep stakeholders informed of equipment failures, service advisories and abnormal conditions to ensure safety and reliability.

•Develops substation equipment maintenance standards, equipment specifications, and framework agreements thru a standardize approach for all operating companies.

•Performs substation equipment/facilities inspections and develops a method for evaluating the risks associated with the equipment & facilities base on a Failure Modes and Effects.

•Apply problem, cause, remedy failure analysis to support maintenance corrective actions and decisions on asset replacements.

•Participates special initiatives on global practices and substation management, developing scope, schedule and budget.

Skills and Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology from an ABET accredited college or university.

•1-3 years of experience, At least 1+ years experience in electric system design, operations and maintenance or relevant field of work.

•Substation maintenance and test experience preferred.

•Experience with NERC PRC-005 protection system maintenance and testing a plus

•Highly developed verbal and written communications skills.

•Effective in managing multiple priorities and an effective team player.

•Possess knowledge and skills in the electric utility industry, along with related business practices and procedures.

•Maintains knowledge of leading edge techniques or technology thru participation in professional associations.

•Ability to explain difficult concepts and influence others.

•Demonstrates high level of oral/written communication and interpersonal competencies.
