In this job, you’ll lead a group of over twenty Operations staff responsible for the daily operation of SCE’s fleet of hydro power plants in Big Creek. The Supervisor will coordinate between two distinct groups: Hydro Station System Operators who work out of the Big Creek Control Center (BCCC) and Operator Mechanics who work in the individual plants. This position requires strong leadership, organizational, communication, delegation, and technical skills. Operational priorities must be effectively communicated to Maintenance Supervisors in the three areas of responsibility at Big Creek as well as to the represented crew leads in the BCCC and the plants.

  • Responsible for the overall coordination of operations activities across Big Creek

  • Ensuring operational priorities are executed through the BCCC

  • Ensure proper execution of planned water movement through the Big Creek system to meet contractual and license requirements

  • Provide feedback on the operational status of plants and systems to the management team making plans for water movement

  • Works with other groups and Supervisors to execute short and long-term production and strategy goals

  • Keeps apprised of major operational issues and helps prioritize needed system repairs

  • Participates in regular leadership meetings

  • Supports peers with issues in maintenance and operations planning

  • Assists the Operations Manager in developing and improving business processes and procedures as needed

  • Ensures safe work practices are implemented in the operation and maintenance of plants and associated systems

  • Adherence to Work Authorization procedures, Station and Division Orders, as well as other pertinent processes and procedures

  • Ensures staff are adequately trained and supported

  • Develops and implements operations training program, ensuring staff remains trained on current technology

  • Responsible for employee performance; recognizing successes, identifying areas for improvement, conducting formal performance reviews, and providing ongoing coaching

  • Manages the staffing needs of Operations, ensuring the efficient management of shift rotation, overtime, and time off schedules

  • Ensures adherence to the Company’s code of conduct and other policies. Reports deviations to the Production Manager. Provides discipline as needed.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Two (2) years of experience operating a hydro-electric power plant

  • Four (4) years of experience in plant operations or combined supervisory experience of maintenance employees.

The preferred

  • Demonstrated experience leading represented employees who are responsible for the operation of hydro generation assets

  • Experience managing and prioritizing the needs of a complex hydroelectric power system to meet the objectives of the local system operator and regulatory agencies

  • Work Mode: This position’s work mode is On-site . The employee will report to an SCE facility or in the field location. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
