Eversource Energy Director, Project Management (OSW) in Berlin, Connecticut

Responsible for directing the Off-Shore Wind (OSW) Project Management onshore construction organization and executing the capital program for infrastructure projects associated with OSW generation being introduced into the Grid, asset condition, generation interconnections, cable installations and substation construction.

Directs project managers, schedulers and construction supervisors through all stages of a project lifecycle from initiation, through closeout, with post project lessons learned to understand failure/success and establish best practices.

Overall responsibility for capital program of projects within a matrix team environment. Provides the leadership, direction, training, coordination, and effective communication to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control, and close projects in a safe, efficient, economical, risk-balanced approach to achieve short- and long-range goals.

Essential Functions:

Leadership of the Project Management Organization

  • Responsible for developing and executing the OSW Capital Construction plan.
  • Accountable for the performance and results of the OSW Onshore Construction Project Management Group project managers (PMs) and for forecasting, acquiring and retaining additional resources qualified to manage OSW projects from initiation through close-out with a concentrated focus on delivering project safely within budget, scope, on schedule, quality, in compliance with siting/permitting regulations, and meeting stakeholder commitments.
  • Reviews and assesses monthly project status reports for consistency with the budget and schedule goals of the Capital Plan and ensures risks have been identified and are being managed throughout the project life cycle. Provides direction to PMs for improvement or corrective action.
  • Collaborates with partnering company departments and supporting functional areas, such as Engineering, Siting, Environmental Permitting, Purchasing, Operations, and External Affairs as well as OSW JV Service Provider to ensure that required project deliverables and services are completed on time and fully meet project needs.
  • Ensures the use of standardized methods and procedures for efficient and prompt handling of all project changes to control scope/schedule impacts, in order to control project costs and schedule adherence.
  • Participates in strategic planning
  • Develops and sets annual expectations for employees that align with corporate goals and works with employees in the preparation of individualized personal development plans.

Process Improvement

  • Engages in continuous process improvement, setting and tracking appropriate process metrics to develop process goals for OSW, projects and individual PMs
  • Works with Project Control Manager to develop project level KPIs and goals
  • Ensures that OSW’s processes and procedures are aligned with corporate requirements, updating and applying lessons learned.

Shareholder Project Reporting/Compliance

  • Ensures timely and accurate project reporting with appropriate backup documentation on cost and schedule changes.
  • Liaison between Project Manager, Wind Developers and/or Transmission Planning in developing Cost Applications; assists in data gathering, resource management and strategy development. Ensures consistency of budget format across all venues

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Must understand and apply financial, accounting, business, risk and project management theories and methodologies
  • Knowledge of financial modeling, accounting, risk management, project management information systems, engineering economics, capital investment analysis techniques, plant accounting, tax and capital budgeting
  • Previous experience as a manager and/or working in team environments as well as supporting process improvements and group facilitation
  • Excellent understanding of corporate strategies and initiatives
  • Ability to monitor and analyze cost and scheduling information, provide forecasts, make recommendations, and communicate effectively at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to influence group culture
  • Demonstrated high competence in past assignments

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Finance, Business or related degree or equivalent experience
  • MBA or equivalent education highly desirable

Experience :

  • Twelve (12) years of related experience
  • Experience as a Project Manager managing large complex multi-year projects is desirable

Licenses & Certifications:

  • PMP certification preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
