Eversource Energy Associate Telecom Engineer- Field Networks in Berlin, Connecticut
The Associate Engineer ( Field Communications / Network Services) is responsible for establishing and maintaining the proper operation of Eversource telecommunication system assets used for voice and data communications.
- Performs tests to verify and document design conformance for telecommunication and electrical systems during construction and commissioning.
- Performs tests to verify and document proper operation of telecommunication equipment and power system components in accordance with the Eversource maintenance program, CONVEX, ISO-NE, NPCC, NERC and other applicable entities.
Provides expertise and direct technical support to diagnose and repair malfunctioning or defective telecommunication systems.
Eversource SCADA systems (Transmission, Distribution, Gas)
- MPLS and Frame Relay networks
- Microwave terminals and associated components (TMD & Packet-based)
- Light-wave communication terminals and associated components (fiber-based, SONET, OTN, DWDM)
- Digital carrier interfaces and multiplexers (CSU, DSU, channel banks, inverse mux, terminal servers, modems)
- Trunked and conventional radio systems (voice and data, DMR, OpenSky, MotoTrbo, MPT1327)
- Radio and Telephone dispatch consoles for Eversource Operation Centers (Transmission, Distribution, Gas, Meter & Service)
- Corporate wide-area paging and emergency voltage reduction system
- Mobile Response Centers and associated equipment (LTE/cellular, mobile VSAT, portable satellite, LMR, networking equipment, portable generators)
- Network management and wireless alarm systems
- Coordinate and/or directly support work assignments with colleagues and other internal and external entities.
- Support the maintenance of remote telecommunication facilities (buildings/shelters, HVAC, emergency generators, fuel supplies, battery plants, towers, regulatory alarm monitoring for FAA-registered obstruction lighting)
- Support Field Communications responsibilities to maintain compliance with all applicable NERC, FCC, FAA, NPCC, ISO-NE and CONVEX requirements and represent Eversource as a subject matter expert during applicable audits.
- Provide training classes as requested for the proper use of radio communications equipment and OSHA RF Safety awareness.
- Perform technical calculations for test applications.
- Direct and verify telecommunication system modifications.
- Compile test data as specified and write test or operation reports as directed.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematic, wiring, logic and interconnection diagrams
- Retain status on ESOP100/TD800 and CONVEX 6401
- Serves on-call as part of a departmental rotation and during emergency restoration efforts as required.
Must be able to work Storm Duty as assigned.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skills:
- Thorough technical knowledge of electrical and electronic components, circuitry, and systems, and ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of state-of-the-art developments.
- Understanding of RF theory and propagation.
- Skill and dexterity in repair, adjustment, and modification of electronic, microelectronics, and delicate electromechanical components, circuitry, and systems.
- Knowledge of specialized instrumentation, use, and application; working knowledge of electrical and electronic testing and measurement techniques. (voltmeters, oscilloscopes, RF & light-wave power meters, TDR, OTDR, serial & network protocol analyzers, digital & analog telecom. test sets, RF test sets)
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both in verbal and written form.
- Familiarity with pertinent regulatory requirements.
- Full knowledge of Eversource safety rules and practices.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Strong computer skills including Operating Systems, application installation & configuration, relational database fundamentals, IP network fundamentals, network management concepts and SNMP, security fundamentals, programming skills
Education /Experience::
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Preferred Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- 0-3 years experience.
Compensation and Benefits:
Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $76980.00 to $85530.00, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of our benefits.
Physical Aspects:
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds of equipment.
- Ability to work in groups to lift and carry loads in excess of 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk for prolonged distances on uneven ground and up hills during various weather conditions to access remote telecommunication facilities.
