Eversource Energy 2025 Summer Substation Automation Engineering Intern in Berlin, Connecticut
The Substation Automation Engineering intern position will provide students the opportunity to apply both classroom and prior experience learning to real life application. The internship is approximately 3-months in duration and provides an opportunity to gain working experience.
*Essential Functions: *
• Individual will perform engineering assignments (engineering and design) in support of
the installation and commissioning of automated electric transmission and distribution
substation devices for Eversource.
• Individual will prescribe the appropriate communication settings, i.e DNP, Modbus, etc,
for substation devices including but not limited to: definition of status, control, and
measurement points, polling rate, unsolicited event classification
• Individual will work with outside departments to develop design settings for
implementation in the field.
• Individual will support lab testing with to ensure design is working properly prior to field
implementation
• Individual will support troubleshooting events related to Substation Automation
equipment where field device communication is identified to have mis-operated or
Substation Automation related alarms are generated.
• Individual will coordinate distribution substation automation work including human machine interface (HMI) design and implementation, RTU configuration, data concentrator configuration, frame relay setup and configuration, and other automation equipment associated with substations.
• Individual will Understanding of and compliance with requirements and standards set
forth by industry organizations and protocols such as IEEE, DNP, modbus, etc.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
• Understanding of the design, specification, and installation of electronic devices such as
Substation RTUs, reclosers, switches, padmount switchgear, RTUs, etc.
• Understanding of SCADA engineering concepts, in particular DNP 3.0 and modbus protocol
• Possess communications and presentation skills
*Education: *
• Student pursuing a BS in Engineering (Controls System, Electrical, Electronic Technology, etc.) or Computer Science. Software experience includes Microsoft Office Suite.
