Underground Construction Project Engineer - Gas in Benicia, California

Our complete and diverse range of construction services includes gas transmission and distribution, electrical transmission and distribution, airport fueling facilities, industrial and special projects, telecommunications and utilities.

We are currently seeking a new Project Engineer to work in our Benicia, CA main office for the Gas division. This position will provide support to both the Superintendent and Project Manager. Our ideal candidate will have a desire to be hands-on in the field, a safety-first mindset, and a strong interest in developing their career in utilities/gas pipeline construction.

Our projects are regulated by federal and state laws which require all employees to successfully pass criminal background checks, MVR, and drug tests (post-employment and random testing).

Job Responsibilities

  • Offers technical information to Project Superintendent to ensure work compiles with applicable codes, drawings, and specifications

  • Determine & track change order conditions & submit to owner for approval & billing

  • Track & process vendor & subcontractor invoices

  • Assemble a meaningful project budget

  • Coordinates change orders, expedites materials and job site requirements

  • Assist in preparing estimates

  • Compiles data to assist in analyzing project progress

  • Learn how to draft sub-contracts with support of higher-level Project Engineers and Project Managers

  • Responsible for ensuring Superintendent has everything necessary to complete a project successfully

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent

  • Acquired certain specialized skills from exposure to specific projects, technologies or industries (e.g. fueling, electrical, or gas)

  • Possesses strong written & verbal communications skills & manages time effectively

  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Project & Excel

  • Detail oriented with a positive attitude & eagerness to learn

  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license

  • Must be able to pass standard background and drug screening
