Underground Construction HR Generalist - I in Benicia, California

Our projects are regulated by federal and state laws which require all employees to successfully pass criminal background checks, MVR, and drug tests (post-employment and random testing).


The HR Generalist - I will provide HR operational support across various Underground Construction divisions.


  • Process new hire data entry as needed

  • Onboards new hires as needed

  • Update and maintain employee records, review, and validate payroll/employee data

  • Partners with local HR team and corporate benefits team to administer benefits annual enrollment process

  • Complete Verifications of Employment for current and previous employees

  • Works with HR Team to create and improve standard HR procedures

  • Update employee benefits information to ensure compliance with ACA requirements

  • Assist with and prepare regular reports for HR Metrics/Data as necessary

  • Assist with all internal and external HR related matters

  • Participate in developing organizational guidelines and procedures

  • Assist with investigation complaints brought forward by employees

  • Assist with FMLA/CFRA/LOA programs

  • Participate in the planning of employee relations events

  • Other duties and projects as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in HR/related field or minimum of 3-5 Years relative experience

  • Through knowledge of local, state, and Federal laws pertaining to HR is required

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary for business needs

  • Must be a team player who possesses a strong bias for action

  • Experience working in construction is a plus

  • Experience with unionized workforces is a plus

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask

  • Must exercise the highest level of confidentiality and integrity

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Must be detail-oriented, possess a high degree of accuracy and work well under pressure

  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed


  • Lifting boxes up to 50 pounds

  • Walking up and down stairs

  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time

  • Working in an office environment
