Position Purpose The Mechanical Maintenance internship offers you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at LG&E’s Trimble County Generating Station. This position will provide challenging projects, networking opportunities, and a chance to learn from experienced electric utility professionals. As a Mechanical Maintenance Intern you will learn to perform work required to clean, inspect, repair, maintain, and install various station systems.
To be considered for this position you must be enrolled in applicable Associate Degree program (Industrial Maintenance, Power Plant Technology, Diesel Technology, etc.)
Education & Experience Candidate must be currently enrolled and pursuing technical degree in Industrial Maintenance, Engineering and Electronics Technology, Applied Process Technology or a related field. Candidate must maintain a minimal 2.5 GPA . Requires excellent computer skills with knowledge and experience using Excel. Above average interpersonal written/oral communication skills required. Able to troubleshoot and analysis mechanical or electrical problems
Job Description Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices.
Actively participate and successfully complete assigned training activities and requirements.
Promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.
Perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job and are within their capabilities, including those needed for purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classification.
Keep all equipment, tools, materials, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.
Represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standards of conduct, appearance and attitude.
Intern is expected to prepare and take the POSS/MASS test measuring job responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge, and problem solving skills.
Perform basic or routine maintenance activities to check, inspect repair, maintain, and install station instrumentation and controls equipment and systems.
Assist employees of higher classifications, and supply them with necessary tools, equipment and materials; upon completion of jobs, assist in gathering up and returning tools, equipment, and surplus materials in a clean and serviceable condition.
Clean equipment undergoing repairs, handle and move material supplies and equipment in connection with the work and work area. Maintain area in clean and safe condition.
Perform basic/routine dismantling and assembly work, bolt and unbolt, connect and disconnect.
Operate as directed, and in a safe and proficient manner: hand tools, power tools, meters, test equipment, hoists, drill presses, grinders, and other tools and equipment pertaining to the work.
Assist in electrical and instrument repair, calibration, and troubleshooting. Assist in lubricating station equipment.
Operate vehicles for transporting men, tools, materials, and equipment as assigned.
Assist as directed, employees of any classification in carrying through work assignments.
Comply with all safety rules related to the position and plant operations.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Work Conditions Plant environment. Position requires ability to work in adverse climate conditions and physical nature of work may require climbing in and out of mills, boilers and walking on grated sidewalks up to 550 feet in the air.
Physical Effort Must be able to lift 70 lbs. from the ground to the height of 30 inches on a daily basis and 50 lbs. from waist level to chest on a daily basis; Typical equipment/materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to tools, materials, lifting bars, valves; Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical ladders unassisted on an hourly basis
