Construction & Maintenance Technician I - GOS00519

CenterPoint Energy is looking for a Construction & Maintenance Technician I to join our Gas Operations SETX BMT Construction District , located in Beaumont, TX .

You will have the ability to: perform company field operations including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, construction, and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Install, repair, or replace steel and plastic pipe

  • Provide First Responder assistance in emergency situations

  • Locate gas lines

  • Load and unload required equipment, tools, and supplies onto and from truck

  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects

  • Use a variety of hand tools and power tools, including picks, shovels, sharpshooters, pipe wrenches, pipe cutters, bolt cutters, pavement saws, jack hammers, air guns, etc.

  • Operate a motor vehicle and heavy equipment and the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted

  • Operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop

  • Stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch for extended periods of time

  • Work on a daily basis in all types of weather conditions

  • Handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion

  • Respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and occasionally return to work while off duty

  • Certify and don personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs on a daily basis

  • Submit to random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Your background includes:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Work outdoors on a daily basis in all types of weather conditions

  • Must be available to respond to emergencies during and after normal working hours

  • Must live within 30 minutes from reporting office

A bonus to have:

  • Welding

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

  • Heavy equipment operator

  • Field services/operations
