About this Role

NorthStar Energy Services offers engineering, procurement, project management, construction management, and consulting solutions to clients in the energy, petrochemical, and process industries. Our clients include oil & gas processing and transportation, refining, chemical, polymers, and industrial gases companies. Job Summary:

The Process Engineer for this position is responsible for development of process design parameters including design concept, criteria, equipment specifications, code interpretations, equipment design, calculations, and selections. The Engineer is also responsible for developing the technical deliverables required for industrial process systems, as well as the overall system design for industrial facilities in one or more of the following areas, Midstream oil and gas, pipeline, specialty chemicals, gas treating, and liquid material handling.

Process Engineer with 7-10 years of experience, working in Engineering Consulting, capable of working in a fast-paced environment. Primary responsibilities include PFD and P&ID development, creating process simulations & performing hydraulic calculations/studies (HYSYS, ProMax, UniSim, Pipe-Flo, etc.), Heat & Material Balance development, Relief Valve sizing, selection, & contingency analysis, equipment specifications and control valve sizing.

What You'll Do

Job Responsibilities:

  • Timely and accurate communication with clients, management, and co-workers

  • Developing and understanding project scope of work specifics, design criteria, and project standards

  • Independently perform process lead duties on projects

  • Participate in weekly project calls with clients to verify scope and information

  • Preparing and maintaining calculations for submittals for applicable permits or client review

  • Developing system design including PFD, P&ID, Layouts, Hydraulic Studies, Equipment Specifications etc.

  • Direct drafters, designers, and other engineers to complete tasks

  • Check work received from Designers/Drafters for correctness and quality.

  • Ensure all engineering tasks are on budget and on schedule.

  • Develop process parameters including mass flow, heat transfer, material balance capacities and rates.

  • HYSYS, ProMax, UniSim, Pipe-Flo or other analysis simulation software

  • Performing and completing advanced engineering work serving as a technical specialist for complex engineering assignments

  • Sizing, selecting and evaluation of Relief Devices including Flare system analysis.

  • Interfacing with mechanical, structural, electrical, and control engineers as well as designers/drafters to complete tasks, obtain necessary information, and communicate any concerns, problems, and/or technical decisions that impact the project.

  • Line lists, Equipment list, and initial Instrument list development

  • Develop safety/emergency shutdown interlock logic diagrams and cause & effect charts for the facility.

  • Participating as lead process engineer is safety reviews, HAZOP/PHAs, and/or LOPAs.

What You'll Bring

Job Qualifications and Required Experience:

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, or Biochemical, Engineering from an accredited university

  • 7-10 years’ experience preferred.

  • Strong understanding and familiarity of process systems, design, and control as well as chemical engineering practices

  • Extensive knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts, practices, codes, and procedures

  • Able to identify and analyze problems and implement solutions.

  • Developing industry specific calculations for systems such as chemical balance, pipe flow rates, compression, maximum intended inventory, over pressure protection, etc.

  • Developing sizing information for process equipment (compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, distillation columns, separators, reactors, tanks, etc.) and provide information in the form of equipment datasheets.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Light physical effort required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about facility.
