This position will be filled as an Engineer III, or Senior based on qualifications and experience of the selected candidate

Job Summary/Purpose

This position is a system-level individual contributor who provides system level support, leadership, and representation for the Distribution Asset Planning organization. This engineer takes on tasks that generally affect all of Distribution Planning or that are best handled by a single individual with a broad view of Distribution Planning, and expertise with all of Distribution Planning’s information repositories and tools. This position keeps the Distribution Planning team within compliance boundaries and seeks continuous improvement for the team through standardization, process improvement, and innovation.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Plan and conduct independent engineering work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to solving problems.

  2. Direct and mentor junior staff and oversee the engineering work on multiple projects; to include design package development, planning studies, reliability analysis, engineering standards development, and system operations.

  3. Represent Entergy as a technical expert within Department. Represents department in Standards discussions and/or utility practices as the industry evolves

  4. Oversee pre-construction or construction activities of distribution line and substation facilities.

  5. Work with subcontractors, packages and equipment manufacturers and interface with clients on technical issues.

  6. Manage the Distribution Planning project portfolio application, Capital Project Tracker (CPTrac):

  7. Act as gatekeeper for new users

  8. Interface with application architect to update functionality and troubleshoot problems

  9. Update and run the associated querying tool as requested

  10. Manage the Substation Querying and Reporting Tool (SQRT):

  11. Act as gatekeeper for new users

  12. Interface with application architect to update functionality and troubleshoot problems

  13. Update source impedance data regularly

  14. Become expert in all SQRT capabilities

  15. Manage the AMI Dashboard Tool (PowerBi)

  16. Act as gatekeeper for new users

  17. Monitor reports refresh schedules

  18. Manage Synergi software for Distribution Planning needs:​​​​​​​

  19. Act as gatekeeper for new users

  20. Submit requests for Batch Load model extracts

  21. Sponsor tutorial sessions with DNV Synergi every other month

  22. Create tutorial documents for complex processes

  23. Assist with updating Distribution Planning Guidelines & Distribution Planning Calendar annually

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical, Industrial) from four year accredited institution.

  • Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.

  • Desired: Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering Degree

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Engineer III - 4+ years’ experience in an engineering discipline (3+ years with Master’s Degree, or FE)

  • Engineer Sr - 6+ years’ experience in an engineering discipline without PE or PMP Certification (5 years with Master’s Degree, PE, or PMP certification)

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

  • Technical mastery of engineering principles.

  • In-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area.

  • Consistently drives for value in sound engineering decisions.

  • Mentors’ other engineers and technical professionals.

  • Good leadership skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent math skills.

  • Excellent project management skills.

  • Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software.

  • Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities.

  • Ability to work well under pressure.

  • Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards.

Must have valid driver's license and good driving record.

Desired: FE/EIT certification, PE license or PMP certification.
