Compliance Team Leader- Plant Harris
JOB SUMMARY
The Compliance Team Leader is responsible for providing leadership to the Compliance program at Plant Harris. This position will ensure that the plant is in full compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations and laws, with the end result being the protection of the environment, and the safety and health of employees. In addition, the Compliance Team Leader will be responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on plant compliance programs that help to ensure safe, reliable, efficient operation and maintenance of a combined cycle power plant. The specific areas of compliance include, but are not limited to; environmental, health, safety, NERC, security, fire protection, water chemistry, accounting/SOx, contractor compliance, grounds maintenance and inventory/procurement.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science or Engineering Preferred
Job Experience Required
Knowledge and/or experience in managing and ensuring adherence to compliance programs (air, land, water, waste, etc.)
Experience working in a power plant or other industrial environment
Job Experience Preferred
Experience working with state and local environmental regulatory agencies
Experience in environmental compliance monitoring and reporting, safety program development and implementation, safety procedure implementation (Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Hot Work, etc.)
Experience in management of a water chemistry program and chemistry technician experience is a plus
Experience working with budgets and budget constraints is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to demonstrate understanding of federal, state and local regulations regarding safety, environmental compliance and physical security for a facility (OSHA, EPA, ADEM, FERC/NERC, etc.)
Strong knowledge of industrial water chemistry program preferred
Working knowledge of power plant operations and maintenance practices preferred
Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, along with a demonstrated ability to display sound judgement
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, is required, along with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within an organization
Must have the ability to work with people to achieve organizational objectives and high employee morale
Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
Basic computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) required; Experience with work management software (i.e. Maximo) preferred
Job Responsibilities & Requirements
Ensure adherence to all company policies and applicable laws/regulations
Must understand customer power purchase agreement commitments and work to meet these requirements while maintaining 100% compliance
Provide leadership, coordination and planning for the compliance team and plant to ensure all safety and health, environmental, and regulatory requirements are achieved
Effectively interact with the plant leadership team and employees, Southern Company corporate office and plant employees, external support organizations, regulatory agencies, and community representatives
Actively participate in the Southern Power Compliance ORB (Operating Review Board)
Serve as a liaison for Environmental Affairs, plant leadership and system owners on compliance issues
Provide leadership for plant technicians
Engage in performance management and development of employees
Perform on-call team leader responsibilities as scheduled
Assume responsibility for on-site activities, including serving as back-up to the other members of the plant leadership team, as necessary
Responsible for ensuring/increasing compliance awareness, supporting all corporate Environmental, Health and Safety initiatives and providing onsite compliance training for plant employees

Some overnight travel, up to 35%, is required
