Position Specific Description

In a control room environment - develops, defines, and analyzes solutions to moderately complex engineering problems requiring complex engineering principles. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Schedules, and/or coordinates detailed phases of engineering work as part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.

  • Works closely with Transmission System Operators in order to safely and reliably control and monitor Lone Star’s transmission system.

  • Responsible for submitting Network Operations Model Change Requests (NOMCR’s) to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).

  • Responsible for outage coordination of Lone Star transmission facilities including knowledge of EMS outage programs, and ERCOT portal submittals.

  • Ability to perform load flow studies, contingency analysis, and various studies of the Lone Star transmission system.

  • Identifies, investigates, and analyzes problems. Develops appropriate solutions.

  • Verifies accuracy of data. Ensures beneficial data is acquired and recorded.

  • Interacts with field personnel on transmission switching issues.

  • Prepares and revises operating procedures and project outlines in connection with engineering assignments. Follows appropriate business procedures.

  • Develops and conducts presentations to management and others.

  • Maintains knowledge of engineering principles. Keeps informed of technical developments, industry codes, and safety and/or regulatory requirements which have impact upon the respective engineering discipline. Fully develops knowledge of Lone Star procedures, equipment and systems.

  • Interprets engineering drawings.

  • Recommends new and improved practices and procedures related to assigned area.

  • Reviews operational processes and procedures and develops recommendations to optimize.

  • Represent Lone Star Transmission on various working groups at ERCOT.

  • Represent Lone Star System Operations on various committees at Lone Star Transmission.

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, or become licensed within first 24-months of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of engineering principles

  • Knowledge of applicable laws, principles, standards, codes, and documentation specific to the area of engineering specialization required to perform the job

  • Skill in analyzing and solving complex problems

  • Skill in verbal and written communication

  • Skill in interpreting diagrams, schematics, and drawings

  • Basic skill level in document management systems

  • Intermediate skill level in office productivity applications (such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)

  • Advanced skill in reading and interpreting diagrams and prints

  • Skill in interpreting engineering drawings

  • Ability to articulate complex, technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to work in a team environment

Work Environment:

  • Work hours are spent in an office environment, industrial, plant, construction and/or field environment

  • Work involves call-out as necessary

  • Work involves frequent finger/hand manipulation in using a keyboard and mouse

• Master's Degree
