Southern Company External Communications, Coordinator in Atlanta, Georgia
DESCRIPTION
Provides communications counsel, planning and execution of Southern Company Gas and its commercial businesses’ external communication strategies. Develops and implements plans to position Southern Company Gas as an innovative industry leader, environmental steward and leading corporate citizen, leveraging digital, public relations and event management experience.
The successful candidate will be a strong written and verbal storyteller with experience with digital and social media; is able to juggle multiple assignments; works well with others and can effectively operate under tight deadlines.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with internal business partners enterprise-wide to develop and execute compelling communications plans that support business objectives.
Writes and edits website content, press releases, social media and marketing materials, among other written materials
Supports executive visibility for Southern Company Gas leaders, as necessary, including external speaking engagements and internal initiatives.
Assists with special projects, as necessary.
Tracks and shares results.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas simply and meaningfully to audiences of diverse backgrounds and education levels.
Familiar with digital communications platforms.
Proactive contributor with an ability to take initiative and be resourceful.
Avid consumer of news with a finger on the pulse of the energy industry.
Proven ability to manage and complete complex projects in a timely, cost-effective manner.
Excellent interpersonal and organization skills, including the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and coordinate with numerous colleagues.
Ability to work as part of a team and act quickly with minimal supervision.
Expert in AP style and grammar rules.
Proficient in PowerPoint.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated ability to write and edit for a wide variety of formats – print publications, websites, videos scripts, correspondence, talking points, fact sheets, Q&As, etc. The ability to share published writing samples upon request is required.
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, journalism, media relations, or a related field.
Strong communication, relational and technical presentation skills.
Social media experience preferred.
Sustainability experience a plus.
A minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience preferred.
Ability to travel required (<25%).
