Reporting directly to the Environmental Compliance Assurance Manager, this position is an opportunity to lead and contribute to creating a world class compliance program by building on Georgia Power’s existing Environmental Management System. Georgia Power Environmental Affairs is a corporate department of environmental subject matter experts who work with operations to support environmental compliance. The Compliance Assurance team is part of Environmental Affairs and is responsible for developing and implementing compliance programs and tools for Environmental Affairs, Generation, Transmission, Distribution, and Corporate Service organizations.

This position will be filled as an analyst, specialist, or engineer depending on educational background, experience, and qualifications.

** Although this position is considered hybrid, the successful candidate will need to be readily available for in-office meetings in Atlanta and visits to facilities throughout Georgia.

** Partial relocation MAY be available IF needed and IF you qualify.

Summary Of Position Duties

This position is responsible for enhancing and maintaining Georgia Power’s Environmental Management System, which encompasses programs, guidelines, and compliance strategies for Georgia Power across all environmental media. Additional responsibilities include supporting compliance activities throughout Georgia Power as needed and championing the use of Georgia Power’s Environmental Management Information System (EMIS).

Job-Specific Responsibilities

  • Ensure Georgia Power’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and associated materials are well conceived, documented, and implemented in order to drive continuous improvement in compliance consistency and reliability. This responsibility will involve the assessment of existing compliance program documentation and the execution of recommendations to improve upon the existing EMS. This responsibility will also involve gathering input from operations on the EMS.

  • Develop and manage a training program to ensure Georgia Power people are knowledgeable about environmental compliance obligations and procedures and to minimize the impact of people changing roles on the overall compliance program. This responsibility will include the development of training policies and programs, the incorporation of existing training materials, management of content development and continuous improvement, and data-driven training performance management.

  • Support of compliance documents and records management driven by compliance requirements and efficient use of technology.

  • Champion the adoption of Georgia Power’s Environmental Management Information System (Enablon) by providing first line support of users as needed. This responsibility will also include working with Environmental Affairs and operating facilities personnel to define and document compliance processes in support of EMIS enhancements, as well as supporting training and rollout of new functionality.

  • Promote and support the Company’s environmental policies, conservation and stewardship in all areas of the business and external engagement.

  • Support the Company’s storm restoration and emergency response efforts as appropriate.

  • Up to 25% travel throughout the state of Georgia; occasional travel to Alabama will also be required.

Education Requirements

  • BS or BA degree in engineering, science related field (i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, etc.) or environmental management

  • Advance degree, such as an MS or MBA is preferred but not required

Experience Requirements

  • Ten (10) or more years of electric utility or other heavy industry environmental compliance management experience

  • Experience developing and/or managing controlled documentation such as corporate policies and procedures is a plus

  • Compliance program and process development and/or organizational change management experience in a consulting capacity is a plus

  • Participation in the implementation of an Environmental Management Information System is a plus

  • Project management experience, especially including experience structuring and planning projects, is a plus

  • Experience using quantitative metrics to communicate performance and drive results in an organization is also a plus

  • Ability to synthesize technical information and communicate in a manner suitable for technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain a flexible schedule which may include non-traditional hours and travel.

  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple assignments.

  • Working knowledge of environmental laws and regulations.

Work Location

  • This position will be based out of Atlanta, GA; however, candidates living outside of the area may be considered with the expectation that they could successfully telework and would be willing to travel to work and/or field locations on a routine (to be determined) and as-needed basis.

  • Travel expectations – approximately 25% per month on average, to include both office and field locations as dictated by business needs.

  • The majority of the work can be performed remotely (telework/work from home)
