JOB SUMMARY:

The Solutions Architect position is responsible for the strategy, roadmap, planning, architecture, development and sustainment of applications, integrations, and business processes, in support multiple business units using the Enterprise Solutions platforms. This position will work with Business Stakeholders, Developers, DBAs, Analysts and other Architects to design, build, and maintain foundational Data Models, ETL/Data Ingestion platforms and Integration platforms required to support Data Acquisition and Information Delivery for the use of business processes and business applications and integrations. In addition, this position will lead and coordinate technical development activities for Financial Systems integrations to:

  • support lifecycle upgrades for the integration toolset

  • design and implement new integrations (real-time, file-based and bulk data transfers)

  • provide bug fixes and enhancements for existing integrations

  • implement architecture changes as needed to remain aligned with the Southern Company Technology Organization strategy

  • implement changes needed to support other systems that integrate with our financial systems, (currently, Oracle Cloud ERP / Oracle Cloud EPM / PowerPlan / Vertex).

  • provide testing and implementation support for lifecycle upgrades for other systems that integrate with our financial systems (currently, Oracle Cloud ERP / Oracle Cloud EPM / PowerPlan / Vertex).

The incumbent is expected to be highly knowledgeable and experienced with modern data and integration architecture. The position requires leadership skills necessary to coordinate and direct developers and other analysts in day to day operations to achieve the desired work efforts. The incumbent will participate and provide technical leadership in all stages of a data solution life cycle: analyze/profile data, create conceptual, logical & physical data model designs, and architect and build ETL/API solutions.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other Technical degree required.

  • Eight or more years of professional technology experience in direct support of applications, integrations, or systems and architectures.

  • Five (5) years of service, providing architecture and/or support for integration solutions.

  • Experience building data architecture and integration roadmaps.

  • Experience designing, integrating, and managing complex application & data solutions.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, competitive information technology organization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to assess impact and quantify risk to ensure appropriate business decisions are made

  • Ability to create and evaluate technical architectures and ensure enterprise-wide buy-in, adoption, adherence and implementation

  • Ability to design highly scalable and extensible architectures that enables the secure collection, storage, relating, describing, modeling, and analysis of a myriad of datasets, including time-series, structured, and unstructured data.

  • Ability to effectively lead committees and teams, train personnel, and create and deliver presentations.

  • Ability to partner with business units and technology teams to elicit and translate business requirements into the design/architecture of innovative technology solutions

  • Ability to research industry guidance, frameworks, best practices and work with industry experts on an on-going basis to determine emerging trends

  • Ability to simplify complex subjects in a way that can be easily understood by less technical audiences

  • Experience in defining and delivering Enterprise Integration Architectures including APIs, SOA, Event Driven Architecture and Process Orchestration

  • Experience planning and managing projects (schedules, resource allocations, costs)

  • Experience with database technologies such as SQL Server & Oracle.

  • Experience with middleware platforms - Oracle Integration Cloud Service (OICS), BizTalk, Java Cloud Service (JCS).

  • Experience with APIGEE is a plus

  • Experience from an architectural standpoint with leading cloud providers – Oracle, AWS, Azure, etc.

  • Experience with modern enterprise data architectures and data toolsets (ex: data warehouse, data marts, data lake, 3NF and dimensional models, modeling tools, profiling tools, data dictionary)

  • Knowledge of development platforms such as .NET and Java

  • Knowledge of Financial Systems, namely Oracle Cloud ERP, Oracle Cloud EPM, PowerPlan, Vertex

  • Knowledge of operating systems, integration architectures (integration brokers, web services, file transfers, point to point), coding standards, and development techniques and best practices

  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application architectures and cloud computing platforms.

  • Understanding of rules and regulations that govern the use of technology, such as NERC CIP, Sarbanes-Oxley and FCC licensing is a plus

  • Understanding of the utility industry is a plus
