Analyst Specialist, Data Analytics

Job Responsibilities / Overview

This position will support the Gas Data Solutions & AI department of Gas Strategic Technology (Gas Technology Solutions) organization within the Southern Company Technology Organization.

The Data Delivery and Operations team designs, develops, implements and supports data-solutions for the Gas business.

Data Analytics Analyst Specialist will work with stakeholders – both business and IT to review functional and non-functional requirements, design, develop, implement, and support data engineering and analytics solutions involving On-Prem and Microsoft Azure cloud technologies that align with and support the Gas business and Technology Organization strategy and standards. Additionally, this position will be responsible for management and alignment of solutions across all technology platforms working closely with Architects, Technology Planning analysts, Business analyst, data management and infrastructure teams to optimize application code, ensuring data integrity, security, stability, resiliency, sustainability, growth, and performance. This position will also be responsible to support existing data integration and analytics solutions as well as designing and developing new solutions.  Additionally, the Data Analytics Analyst specialist is expected to mentor, guide team and own technical issue resolution.

This position will report to IT Supervisor, Data Delivery and Operations in the Gas Technology Service organization.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Review functional and non-functional requirements, design, develop, implement, and support data engineering and analytics/reporting solutions

  • Design and implement orchestration and automation solutions

  • Follow source code management.

  • Resolve production health issues following Southern Company processes and tools. Collaborate and coordinate with offshore, nearshore and onsite team members.

  • Perform semantic data modelling.

  • Monitor and report on system health.

  • Prepare and maintain Development and Test environments.

  • Assist Business Analysts and QA in test planning and execution.

  • Collaborate with data management team to conduct performance optimization and tuning.

  • Support Data Management team in purge and archive activities.

  • Evaluate new tools and technologies to help achieve business.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to gather information, improve processes, and resolve issues.

  • Participate in call out rotation during business hours and after hours.

  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing exercises.

  • Provide support to Technology Planning Analysts on the Gas Data Solutions & AI Team

Qualifications:

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS or a related field.

  • Preferred: Informatica certified professional, Microsoft Certified Data Engineer, Data Analyst

Related Work Experience:

Required:

  • 6+ years hands-on experience with full life-cycle implementation and support of DW/BI solutions.  

  • 5+ years hands on experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting data engineering and analytics solutions using on-premises tools such as Informatica, Microsoft BI (SSIS/SSAS), SQL, Oracle, and SQL Server.  

  • 3+ years hands on experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting data visualization and analytics solutions using Microsoft reporting tools such as MSRS/SSRS, IBM Cognos and Power BI.  

  • Experience creating functional and technical designs for data engineering and analytics/reporting solutions.  

  • Experience implementing data models of different schemas and working with diverse data source types.  

  • Hands-on experience developing automation solutions using tools such as Autosys, Control -M (BMC) 

  • Experience with Agile as well as DevOps, CI/CD methodologies  

  • Experience with designing re-usable solution components and perform code-reviews.  

  • Experience working in a medium to large enterprise setting and collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams.  

  • Hands-on experience designing and developing solutions involving data sourcing, enrichment and delivery using APIs & Web Services.  

Preferred Skills/Experience :

  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting Data ingestion, integration solutions using Microsoft.NET.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the GAS (Utilities) Industry and related data and analytics strategies.

  • Hands-on experience developing and supporting Python based AI/ML solutions.

  • Experience with Containerization methodologies – Docker, OpenShift etc.

  • Experience in Utilities, Preferably Gas  

  • Experience in Data Governance processes and tools such as Informatica Data Catalog

Additional Information:

  • The position will operate in a hybrid, remote work environment. This is subject to change as the support needs of the business unit dictate.

  • Occasional travel may be necessary, up to 25%.
