AES Sr. Director, Corporate Risk Management in Arlington, Virginia

This position leads global portfolio risk quantification for AES. Individual market management strategies are evaluated to ensure risk allocation across our businesses and product lines are appropriate and consistent with corporate strategy. Success in this role is achieved by developing and effectively communicating a risk-reward trade-off framework aligned with company objectives and AES’ mission to accelerate the future of energy, together!

The Senior Director of Corporate Risk Management Analytics reports to the Chief Risk Officer. The position leads and empowers a 7-person team dedicated to the utilization and enhancement of AES’ quantitative portfolio model and governance frameworks. Through these activities, the team improves corporate and business-level market and risk management strategy design and execution. A key aspect of this position is a commitment to continuous improvement in the areas of risk reporting, global risk policy, approval processes and technology use.

The position collaborates with Senior Leadership and partners closely with business-level Risk Directors and Commercial, Digital and Finance teams. This is an exciting role with a significant opportunity to make an impact!

Qualifications

  • Leads the development, tracking and evaluation of performance metrics associated with market operations and trading analytics

  • Ability to form views on the direction of market relationships to assess risk tolerance and develop strategies and make recommendations.

  • Demonstrated understanding of energy markets and trading activities.

  • 10+ years of proven related experience.

  • Experience presenting sophisticated data and analysis to non-technical audiences.

  • Experience in several of the following areas:

  • Risk tools such as stochastic modeling.

  • Generation bid strategies and thermal and renewable plant operating characteristics.

  • Fuel, specifically LNG, and power market fundamentals.

  • Physical and financial energy trading instruments.

  • Derivative pricing and structuring and risk assessment tools.

  • Interest in leading and developing less experienced talent.

  • Robust experience handling and leading corporate treasury, risk, data science or energy trading organization functions.

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a quantitative field (mathematics, engineering, data science, finance) preferred.
