The Portfolio Management Director is a member of the strategic innovation team responsible for envisioning and catalyzing the future electrical grid while also delivering near-term value to AES’ renewable portfolio and developing new business models. These outcomes require a dynamic team that is highly adaptable to new information and challenges, embodying AES’ thought leadership through agility, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. Decarbonization requires bold action and compelling narratives mobilized equally by data and empathy.

As the Portfolio Management Director, you will have a good understanding of the US electrical grid, skilled in recruiting expert insights from the AES organization, our customers, and the larger ecosystem. You have an innovative and solution-oriented mind and excel at identifying barriers to and opportunities for project and portfolio success and taking specific action to secure positive outcomes. As a change agent within AES, you recognize the value of and cultivate internal and external relationships to tailor portfolio outputs and messaging for impact.

Key responsibilities

  • Know the market, having a solid understanding of trends and players to tailor projects and drive outcomes

  • Dive deep into ecosystem jobs to be done, challenges, and journeys, conducting workshops as needed to elicit both functional and technical requirements

  • Collaborate across the organization and within the team to create projects that align with our strategic objectives and drive company value while transforming the grid

  • Define project and portfolio success metrics to monitor and measure, keep projects on schedule and within budget to achieve portfolio goals

  • Bring an entrepreneurial and results-oriented mindset to project management of on-going Tapestry relationship

  • Help AES stand apart as a leader in the transformation of the grid, creating excitement and fertile ground for the portfolio’s impact and success

Qualifications and Capabilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA or similar continuing education preferred

  • 8+ years of demonstrated experience in business strategy, product, or innovation, preferably with 5+ years of experience in the electricity sector

  • Preferred experience running an innovative product from early stages to completion, keeping momentum and solving problems as they arise

  • Able to drive focus to strategic objectives, one who leads by example, identifying and contributing where efforts are most needed to optimally advance projects

  • Attention to detail, focusing on details with impact; able to consume technical and commercial information and then convey them in simple terms

  • Strong executive presence and presentation skills with proven ability to develop and deliver insights, using quantitative and qualitative data to support and communicate

  • A hard worker marked by perseverance; coachable and embracing of best practices and feedback as a means of continuous improvement

  • Someone with passion who believes in the value of team and culture, and is committed to building and protecting it
