AES is seeking Graduate Student Summer Associates to make substantial contributions within the following teams:

  • Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions: The Corporate M&A team plays a key role in advancing AES’ strategic growth and innovation, working closely with various AES markets to assess potential opportunities and manage and execute transactions.

  • AES Next: AES Next is the incubation and principal investment arm of AES,tasked with growing new business platforms that transform customer experience and the electricity sector.

  • Portfolio Asset Management: Asset Managers are critical in the operation of a large fleet of renewable and energy storage projects, ensuring the optimal financial performance of our rapidly growing fleet.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an MBA or a Master's degree.

  • 3-5 years of work experience.

  • Innately curious, quick learner, and possesses strong analytical skills.

  • Strong teammate, proactive and capable of driving projects forward.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify sophisticated topics.

  • Proficient in forming persuasive arguments and addressing diverse partners.

  • Understanding of energy market, and passion for the energy transition and a greener future.

Internship Opportunities:

Your application will be considered for all positions, and in the next stage of the application, which is an online assessment, you can indicate your interest by ranking the following projects available:

1) Mergers and Acquisitions Summer Associate , Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions: Interns will be involved in a range of transaction types (e.g., asset sales, acquisitions, partnerships) within AES’s portfolio. Additionally, you will lead an independent project to develop an investment thesis and a recommendation for presentation to leadership at the end of your internship.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and use financial and valuation models to assess projects and AES as a whole.

  • Analyze potential transactions and their impact.

  • Manage, interpret and validate data for analyses.

  • Develop understanding of AES’s corporate and business structure, financials, valuation, credit rating, strategy, capital costs, and tax position for transaction assessments.

  • Develop understanding of AES markets, and opportunities to drive value.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations and reports.

  • Coordinate with internal and external parties for due diligence.

  • Support transaction assessment/ approval process including memos and presentations.

Additional Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong finance and strategy proficiency.

  • Technical Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, financial research, and modeling.

  • Understanding of financial statements and business valuation theory.

2) AES Next Opportunities : Carbon Free Electricity, Hydrogen , and Future of Grid : Interns will spend half of their time driving a specific incubation or investment, which can range from market analysis, customer research, financial/economic modeling, or transaction support for one of the initiatives listed below. The remaining time will be dedicated to deep fundamental analysis for AES Next’s emerging technology radar, which underpins AES’ thesis-driven investment strategy.

  • C arbon F ree Electricity Summer Associate , AES Next : Advance solar module innovation and robotic automation solutions for solar construction, supply chain analysis, competitive analysis, solution validation, and strategic partnership development.​

  • Hydrogen Summer Associate , AES Next : Engage in product ideation, techno-economic analysis, financial modeling, dispatch strategies, and electrolyzer deployment thesis.​

  • Future of Grid Summer Associate, AES Next :The increase in connected digital resources, particularly inverter-based resources, is transforming the electricity grid, presenting a rare opportunity for its comprehensive redesign in the digital-first era. As an associate, you'll actively engage in technical, commercial, and policy solutions to enable transition to a digital-first system. This includes defining applications, analyzing customer needs, assessing regulations, and crafting go-to-market plans for new business models. Familiarity with policy, regulatory, and market constructs related to the electricity grid and basic understanding of power systems and associated technologies are desired but not required qualifications for this position.

Additional Skills and Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with financial modelling, electricity markets and competitive analysis.

  • Shown interest in innovation and emerging energy transition technologies.

  • Preferred: background in Engineering or other Sciences, either through academic qualifications or work experience.

3) Portfolio Asset Management Summer MBA Intern , Portfolio Asset Management: This role includes project reporting, financial, commercial and compliance management, administrative tasks, and coordination and oversight of the operations and maintenance of the assets. 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a portfolio of sophisticated renewable energy assets.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize financial results while balancing risk.

  • Enhance and automate core processes and collaborations within AES Clean Energy.

  • Act as the Owner’s Representative for assigned AES Clean Energy project portfolios.

  • Manageassigned project and portfolio’s financial matters (P&L responsibility), and budgets.

  • Support outage resolution or mitigation.

Additional Skills and Qualifications:

  • Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, analytical and time management skills.

  • Diligent and self-motivated with strong presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Understands project finance, legal contracts, accounting, and is proficient in Microsoft Office.
