Job Summary

Support our Texas Gas Operations in Houston, by working closely with front line employees, leadership and other members of the Safety and Training organization. This position will provide safety support by participating in field observations, safety committees, safety meetings, incident investigations and learning events, implementing Safety and Health programs, providing safety guidance to employees, establishing relationships with coworkers, company personnel and industry peers, and by providing excellent customer service to the Texas Gas Operations organization.

Essential Functions

  • Provide daily safety support to assigned work groups.

  • Conduct observations/audits of personnel, tools, equipment, and work practices to assure safe and proper procedures are being observed.

  • Identify, evaluate, and make recommendations on programs, practices, tools and equipment aimed at reducing or eliminating risk for Gas Operations personnel.

  • Participate in and lead Learning Events within the organization.

  • Conduct incident investigations to identify causes and corrective actions.

  • Collaborates with various departments and levels of leadership on the development, delivery and implementation of effective safety programs and policies.

  • Supports the organization’s SIF prevention strategy through discussions, presentations, and training.

  • Review, interpret, and apply workplace safety standards, such as OSHA, PHMSA, NFPA, ANSI, ASTM.

  • Monitor and review safety data for trends and identify risk reduction strategies.

  • Develop and conduct safety training and presentations.

  • Maintains relationships as necessary with appropriate agencies and keeps abreast of regulatory/governmental proceedings to identify impacts to the organization.

  • Assists legal department as required regarding occupational safety and potential exposure concerns.

  • Participate in Emergency Operations when emergency response is activated.

  • Able to understand technical terminology to assist and/or lead the development and design of innovative safety and/or operational initiatives.

  • Able to lead incident investigations and present findings and actions to the organization.

  • Able to work collaboratively with Safety team members, operations, engineering, training and other work groups within the organization.

Education Description

Requires bachelor’s degree in safety or related technical field (e.g., Industrial Engineering (Safety), Science, Business or Behavioral Sciences) from an accredited college or university. Or a combination of education and experience where two (2) years of experience may be substituted for one (1) year of education. This is more than the experience requirements noted below.

Experience

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.

  • Requires minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Safety, with preferred safety experience in Gas Utilities, Oil and Gas Operations, or Industrial Organizations.

  • Preferred valid certification as a: CSP, ASP, CUSP, OHST, or CHST.
