Overview

This position provides customers with safe, reliable and competitively priced electric service through the supervision of PPL’s electric distribution system operations and dispatching activities during a shift. This position will provide guidance and direction to other PPL employees to support production of high quality, timely and cost-effective restoration of electrical service and execution of planned work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision of 10 to 12 management and BU employees.

  • Safe operation of the electric distribution system and system dispatch (personnel and equipment). Understand and model human performance error prevention techniques.

  • Manage the performance of distribution operations personnel by reviewing and evaluating their work. Assess and improve team and employee performance through coaching and on-the-job training.

  • Collaborate with field supervision to problem solve and develop cost effective response plans to outage situations. Evaluates restoration alternatives and determines the optimum plan to restore the system and provide status information (including estimated restoration times) to customers. Call crews to address field problems and directs field forces in restoration, maintenance and electrical permit activities.

  • Maintain emphasis on keeping the electric distribution system in normal (steady state) configuration. Understand out-of-configuration conditions that exist on the system and manage the risk associated with these conditions.

  • Supervise switching and tagging responsibilities of the shift. Ensure switching and tagging is completed to meet schedule commitments.

  • Maintain, at all times, an intimate knowledge of system conditions such as weather conditions and other emergent issues which could adversely affect the Company’s operations; arrange for preventative actions and additional manpower as appropriate.

  • Keep supervision and key personnel updated concerning significant system conditions and events. Coordinates notification of reportable incidents to internal and external customers and stakeholders as appropriate.

  • Assure all required records and logs are up-to-date.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma

  • Three (3) years of experience in dispatch, transmission or distribution system operations, or utility industry experience.

  • Must be willing to do shift work and work overtime for emergencies/conditions.

  • Successfully pass background screening for NERC/CIP or for any other regulatory requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or related discipline.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in dispatch, transmission or distribution system operations, or utility industry experience.

  • Knowledge of PPL electric system, and operating practices.

  • Previous experience supervising employees.

  • One of more of the following certifications: PJM Generation or Transmission System Operator, PJM Gen or NERC System Operator

  • Ability to organize, prioritize and schedule work.

  • Must be able to direct the actions of others.

  • Strong PC skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.

Remote Work

The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
