PPL Corporation Senior Network Technologist in Allentown, Pennsylvania


Internal Title:

Senior Network Technologist

Primary Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of complex assignments (may lead some projects) and analyzes and solves complex problems in the below areas.

Network Design and Selection:

  • Collaborate with business leadership to collect requirements to shape networking services

  • Ensure that modified network infrastructure meets performance requirements

  • Ensure that all network projects follow corporate standards and security policies

  • Provide thought leadership and apply leading trends in networking

  • Understand network interdependencies and impacts of recovery procedures across PPL EU infrastructure

  • Serve as a subject matter advisor on networking technologies

  • Establish the networking technology lifecycle approach, including refresh and retirement strategies

Network Implementation:

  • Analyze the current system network, using technical tools and utilities

  • Implement test plans (including functionality, integrity, and stress testing; test matrices; and definition of test methodologies and strategy)

  • Ensure that plans integrate effectively with other aspects of the technical infrastructure

  • Drive scalable internetworks and multilayer-switched networks for the IT organization’s rapid growth

  • Design, deliver, enhance, and support networking services, which include intranet, extranet, local area network, and wide area network technologies

  • Implement test plans (including functionality, integrity, and stress testing; test matrices; and definition of test methodologies and strategy)

  • Ensure that plans integrate effectively with other aspects of network infrastructure

Solution Development:

  • Develop and configure network infrastructure from conceptualization through stabilization

  • Test, debug, performance analyze, and document infrastructure components

  • Support Vendor Management Lead and Operations Lead to issue networking related RFPs, assess bid proposals, negotiate contracts, and onboard vendors

  • Liaise with relevant IT System Operators and Security Specialists to coordinate, design, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware


  • May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

Position Summary:

The Network Technologist is responsible for the planning, designing, and implementing of network solutions.

The Senior level performs assigned tasks under minimal guidance from supervisor.

  1. Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related work experience OR 8 years of related work experience
