Overview
The substation modernization technologist will be responsible for the design, programming and implementation of substation automation and modernization projects. These projects will integrate existing substation automation assets and help automate existing processes. Integration could include evaluating and implementing existing vendor solutions or creating new programs. The engineer will integrate existing IT and OT concepts into a homogeneous network enabling PPL to move its existing infrastructure into a state-of-the-art resilient grid.
Responsibilities
Program Design
Assist in the architectural design of grid modernization projects
Work with substation relay engineering to define needs for automation and modernization projects
Create custom script and programs to enhance automation and grid modernization
Project Coordination
Create architectural diagrams and work with IT to implement new technologies to assist in automation and grid modernization
Coordinate with IT to ensure network connectivity and resources are allocated in order to meet objectives
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s of science degree in a technical discipline and 2 years of related work experience
Experience in substation relay engineering specifically, SCADA, Automation, communications
Knowledge of one or more of the following programming languages
Python, C, Microsoft PowerShell
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
5+ years of experience working in an architecture role
Experience supporting fast-changing business organizations
