Engineer / Support Engineer / Senior Engineer - Transmission Planning

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Analysis: Perform power flow studies with the help of tools such as PSSE/E, TARA etc. and develop high quality system reinforcement plans. Utilize programming language such as Python, C++ and Visual Basic (VB) to automate the complex simulation processes.

  2. Model Management: Maintain the accuracy of existing and future transmission system model and contingency database.

  3. Work Initiator: Develop high quality project work scope (Gate 0 package) by taking inputs from various internal stake holders such as Engineering Design, Siting, Real Estate, Operations, Project management, Compliance, Distribution Planning, Regulatory Affairs, System Maintenance etc. Prepares detailed project justification, alternative analysis, and supporting documentation for budgeting transmission projects to be included in the business plan.

  4. External Interface: Interfaces with external entities including PJM, RFC and other PJM members. Prepares documentation and submittals to support compliance to federal and state regulatory agencies, including FERC, NERC, and PA PUC

  5. Learning/Knowledge Transfer: Builds relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross-functional knowledge of related work groups, and ability to present work products effectively. Continually expands and improves technical and business skill set under own initiative with instruction, guidance and direction from others

  6. Process Improvement: Leads a variety of initiatives including developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations or transmission planning criteria.

Position Summary:

The Transmission Planning is responsible for performing complex power flow studies and developing high quality transmission system reinforcement plans by taking inputs from various stakeholders. This position will proactively provide mentoring and training to less experienced transmission planners. The ideal candidate is able to work independently with minimal guidance using knowledge of transmission planning, transmission planning guidelines and external interfaces such as NERC, FERC and PJM.

Candidates must meet the basic qualifications and pass all required tests or assessments to receive consideration.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.

Basic Qualifications:

Engineer

  1. Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university. Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.

Support Engineer

1.Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology discipline. In lieu of degree, applicants who have PE license in the state of Pennsylvania will be considered.

2.Minimum of 2 years of related experience.

Senior Engineer

1.Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology discipline. In lieu of degree, applicants who have PE license in the state of Pennsylvania will be considered.

2.Minimum of 5 years of related experience.

3.Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for the specific position.

Support Engineer

1.Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university program accredited by ABET or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent. (Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.)

2.Engineer in Training certificate.

3.Experience in the energy industry.

4.Professional Engineer licensed in the state of Pennsylvania.

5.Prior experience of using power flow tools such as PSSE/E, TARA, PROMOD.

6.Experience in using programming language such as Python, C++ and Visual Basic (VB) to automate power flow simulation process.

  1. Professional Engineer licensed in the state of Pennsylvania.

Senior Engineer

1.Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university program accredited by ABET or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent. (Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.)

2.Professional Engineer, registered in applicable state.

  1. Prior experience of using power flow tools such as PSSE/E, TARA, PROMOD.

  2. Experience in using programming language such as Python, C++ and Visual Basic (VB) to automate power flow simulation process.

  3. Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (MS) or MBA.

  4. Professional Engineer licensed in the state of Pennsylvania.
