Position Overview

The Senior Technical Advisor will be responsible for developing, implementing and integrating new technological concepts/solutions and roadmaps as part of SCE long term Grid Data Center design and engineering strategy. This strategy is critical to enabling the Company’s grid modernization vision and supporting programs. This position will work with internal and external individuals to develop and implement data center capabilities needed to enable smart control and automation technologies on SCEs grid with consideration for critical cyber security requirements. They will be responsible for building a holistic view of the current and future state grid data center technologies as well as current and future state infrastructure that aligns with the business needs and capabilities. This position will be responsible for developing specifications, designing and working with vendors to develop new data center capabilities and assessing the compatibility and overall integration (including integrated process, applications, data and technology) of products/services into the overall Power System Controls/Grid Management Systems Environment/Portfolio supporting T&D, CS and Power Supply. Represent SCE at various technical conferences, industry forums and business matters to ensure SCE’s leadership position in a rapidly changing industry.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical leadership and direction to SCE technical teams related to the implementation of data center technologies in support of strategic initiatives including the Grid Modernization Program.

  • Responsible for formulating, maintaining and evolving the vision for data center infrastructure related to Grid Management and control technologies.

  • Sets technical direction and provides IT Roadmap updates relative to key technology directions and to the IT organizational unit taking into account long-term capabilities required and project impacts.

  • Communicates with major program stakeholders, executives and senior management on key technical decisions, program status, technical issues and risk.

  • Prepares and delivers effective documentation and presentations on project technical artifacts and overall program engineering and design.

  • Partners with key business and IT leadership for the purpose of setting and aligning strategic direction.

  • Performs technology watch functions and keeps abreast of latest developments. Represents the company on industry standard bodies and at conferences.

  • Acts as a mentor and role model to other IT specialists and engineers.

  • Assists IT Grid Services management with development of plans to acquire, train and retain high performing technical talent in critical areas.

  • Develops and updates of technical and strategic plans that impact both the grid and SCE’s business plans in response to changes in technology and the regulatory landscape.

  • Integrates work across different areas, develops the business and services, enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans.

  • Facilitates needed business alignment and changes that correspond to the outcome of various activities between data center infrastructure and Cyber Security impacts.

  • Collaborates with execution focused organizations to employ grid modernization strategy and modify planning and operational processes.

  • Directly engage T&D, CS and IT operations, engineering and planning organizations to the development and deployment of technologies and concepts that align with the grid modernization capability roadmap.

  • Leads teams of highly technical individuals to develop and implement future data center capabilities needed to enable distribution smart grid technologies, system automation, and information technology and grid management solutions.

  • Provides technical direction to project teams and govern project adherence to standards and overall engineering and design.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

  • 10 years of Data Center Engineering and Design Experience

  • 5 years leading operational and project technical teams.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering

  • 12 years of Data Center Engineering and Design Experience

  • 5 years of experience in the power utility industry

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation.
