Position Overview

Lead Control Systems Specialist - This position is to lead the design, testing and deployment of a new corporate historian as part of the Grid Management System (GMS) scope of work. The person will be responsible for leading a team of application Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and work closely with all work streams of the GMS effort to build out the necessary time series database needs to support proposed GMS functionality and future Grid Analytics capabilities. This position requires in-depth knowledge of the data historian functionality, technology and how the data historian is architected, designed and integrated into the control system platforms. The position also requires clear understanding of how the utility business uses the data historian applications for real time trending, event monitoring, forecasting, and reporting. This position will be also be responsible for interfacing with the maintenance team during the project to ensure the historian solution continues integrate into the legacy systems as well as perform knowledge transfer to the maintenance organization regarding the implement technology and solutions. The position will also work with other SCE teams to ensure the historian applications and platforms are implemented according to the standard as well as adhere to policies and in compliance with NERC and FERC.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Design, construct, test and implement new data historian solution, communication and user interface software as required to integrate with the GMS solution as well as the existing SCE platforms

  • Lead the integration of a new enterprise historian solution into SCEs grid control environment

  • Develop migration strategy for all grid control data historian needs

  • Support Data Historian Organizational Change Management (OCM) activities

  • Support Operations, troubleshooting and modification s to data historian

  • Conduct training and provide directions to SMEs in the operations and maintenance of data historian system

  • Consults with senior management on high-level technical issues and solutions related to the grid data historian

Complete and review documentation including system design, test plans, test procedures, training materials, operations and maintenance manuals, etc.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in electrical engineering, computer science or other stemmed related disciplines.

  • Eight (8) or more years of relevant experience in the field of control systems performing analysis or related functions and providing recommendations.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master degree in specialized field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience with implementation of large scale electric utility Energy Management System or Distribution Management System Data Historian Technology.

  • Technical knowledge of AVEVA eDNA or OSI PI data historian applications with relevant electric utility implementation experience is preferred.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
