About the Opportunity

This is an open position with the FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the Department’ strategic plan to reflect the Department’s senior management team’s goals and priorities

  • Develop, oversee, track, and report on the Department’s annual and multi-year strategic operating plans, including budgeting and spend, while also providing insights and analyses into ongoing spend management efforts

  • Manage monthly accruals and liaise with team leads, Finance Department and vendors to ensure accurate accruals; manage reporting of Department financial activities and forecasts; and perform financial and data analysis; manage billing guidelines and vendor payments

  • Assist the Department to meet or exceed its budget goals

  • Develop, manage and implement strategies and programs for positive and efficient outside counsel and other vendor relationships, supporting leadership efforts for identification and assisting with selection of new firms and vendors (in partnership with staff attorneys and/or corporate team), pricing negotiations (including alternative billing arrangements), ongoing fee management, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion assessments

  • Coordinate communication and development program for the Department management meetings, all hands meetings, and Department retreats

  • Establish knowledge management content and knowledge sharing capabilities within the Department

  • Develop, implement and manage Department metrics, benchmarking and reporting

  • Assist Department senior management team to develop personnel management processes, such as staff attorney onboarding, training, development, and staffing processes to realize organizational efficiencies

  • Manage, evaluate, improve and implement processes, procedures, workflow and system solutions to enhance client service, efficiency and productivity

  • Manage the Department’s various software and systems (such as CounselLink, matter management and docketing tools, MS Teams, and Corporate group vendors) used by the Department including vendor management and coordination of training for the Department and internal business clients

  • Drive and manage new technology adoption, training and change management

  • Provide project management leadership, process management and reporting to measure results

  • Work cross-functionally with professionals in HR, Finance, IT, and other business units

  • Ensure compliance with policies, guidelines and financial controls

  • Perform other special assignments, strategic projects or duties, as needed

  • Supervise Department’s administrative staff

Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in developing, implementing and using technology solutions (such as e-billing and matter management, and similar technology)

  • Analytical skill with ability to marshal evidence to develop strategic recommendations

  • Familiarity with best practices in legal operations and the latest developments in legal technology and innovative solutions; comfortable working with technology and systems, include the full suite of Microsoft Office applications

  • Skilled in data analysis and Excel modeling

  • Exceptional attention to detail and highly organized with a proven ability to contribute in a fast-paced, changing work environment while working efficiently and at times, autonomously

  • Strong work ethic and sense of professionalism and discretion, demonstrating accountability, integrity, good judgment, and respect for confidentiality

  • Able to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a positive, "can do" attitude to the workplace and works collaboratively with other members of the legal team and with internal business partners

  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical and presentation skills required

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Able to create reporting processes and leverage systems and cross-functional teams to expedite processes

  • 5-7 years of experience in legal budgeting, operations and/or project management

  • Bachelor’s degree required
