This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]
These positions are in the Energy Sales group reporting to the Director of Energy Sales. Sales staff will work from home or regional offices, but group reporting will be at the Akron, Ohio General Office.
The candidates selected for this position will represent FirstEnergy Advisors as an agent, selling energy consulting services and related products to residential, commercial and industrial customers in OH, PA, NJ, MD and other deregulated states. This employee will work with a team to create opportunities and then work independently to sell retail energy consulting services, primarily gas and electric, to customers at profitable margins.
The positions will primarily work in the industrial and commercial sales channel and will be expected to handle more complex relationships. All sales staff is expected to close sales at profitable margins to meet and/or exceed sales goals.
There are two openings. One will be based in Ohio and another in Pennsylvania, within FE service territory locations and will involve some travel and a flexible workday to accommodate meetings at various times and locations.
Assist management in executing an agent energy business plan across all sales’ channels
Develop strategies to target customers, sell energy and grow customer base, including cold calling, electronic communications and in-person sales methods
Create sales opportunities by regularly calling, emailing and visiting current and potential customers
Develop and maintain a book of business that meets or exceeds energy sales and margin goals by consistently anticipating and delivering against action plans
Develop sales proposals for various customer channels
Research, analyze and understand the competitive marketplaces’ strengths and weakness to enhance sales
Manage contract process between customer and supplier and between supplier and FE Advisors
Consistently record sales calls, visits and follow-up and follow-through on leads and all contract activity
Provide high level customer service, continuous support and proactive involvement with customers
Develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and assist when workload requires additional resources
Assist leadership in reporting business unit active as they relate to sales activities and goals
Offer ideas and suggestions to improve work processes and projects with limited resources.
Develop beneficial relationships with suppliers to provide best prices and service to customers
Learn and grow knowledge of energy products and energy markets and know how market movements affect sales
Learn and understand utility rules and regulations in retail market space
Demonstrate competency and proficiency as a sales’ representative
Apply learned sales techniques and product knowledge to enhance book of business
Employ high level of utility knowledge regarding deregulation rules across multiple states
Relate knowledge of gas and electric markets and products and convey this knowledge to increasingly sophisticated customer base
Apply best practices and learned sales techniques to customer prospects and customer base
Develop and recommend sales programs and solutions that have a direct and positive effect on sales
Educate others on technical subject matters and make contributions to improve programs
Utilize fully developed supplier relationships to bid on FE Advisor customer proposals
Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or related sales field with 4 years relevant work experience required. In lieu of degree, minimum 7 years relevant experience required. Relevant experience includes demonstrable success in directly selling products to residential or business customers
Demonstrable ability to independently target, analyze, price and close sales with customers in various channels
Working knowledge of energy markets and products available for sale
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with in-house CRM systems.
Willingness to travel, up to 20% of time
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with customers, suppliers, supervisors, peers and employees and other partners involved in the sales process
Ability to rapidly assess and make recommendations to customers using analytical and interpersonal skills
Questioning attitude and willingness to make recommendations when process and system improvements are needed
Willingness to take on difficult challenges given various market conditions
Knowledge of electricity or energy markets
Positive attitude and proactive behavior
Ability to deliver accurate work in a timely manner
Experience handling customer concerns and resolving problems in an independent manner
