About the Opportunity

This is an open position withFirstEnergy Services Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]

As a Corporate Tax intern at FirstEnergy, you will have an impact on the team’s success. Based on your academic discipline, as well as the department and projects you are assigned to, selected candidates may:

  • Assist with tax account, balance sheet reconciliations

  • Assist with month-end financial reporting

  • Assist with various ad-hoc tax accounting reporting and analysis requests

  • Assist with the preparation of Corporate Federal, State and Local tax returns

  • Contribute to improving current work processes and supporting documentation

  • Collaborate with other departments under the Controller to complete projects

You will also have the opportunity to participate in the Co-/Intern Professional Development Program, which is designed to cultivate professional skills and provide professional level work at FirstEnergy. Each participant will receive a personalized development plan, on-the-job training, and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies.


  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited university/college with a major in Accounting, Business or Finance.

  • Additional Coursework in the Accounting discipline is highly preferred

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better

  • Must be a eligible to work without sponsorship both now and in the future

  • Ability to pay attention to details

  • Demonstrate ability to define and solve problems

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to make formal presentations to various audiences

  • Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects, with the aptitude to learn quickly

  • Sound understanding of Microsoft Office line of products, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Organizational skills to prioritize and plan work, multi-task and meet schedules

  • Able to work in a team environment

  • Highly motivated to work independently and productively, with an aptitude to learn quickly

  • Analytical skills to resolve problems and think creatively
