The New York Power Authority’s Energy Efficiency Team is looking to employ a professional that possesses design and implementation experience required to identify, develop, and manage the implementation of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) primarily at government agencies in the South East NY area.
Energy efficient technologies to be employed on various building systems including boilers, chillers, BMS, demand control ventilation, LED lighting and controls, compressed air, building envelope, solar, and HVAC distribution amongst others.
Prepare and/or review engineering calculations, energy savings estimates, and cost analyses, measure, measure descriptions and scope of work for energy efficiency study/audit reports, and designs in various phases
Prepare and present financial and technical recommendations and project descriptions to our Customers
Prepare and/or review equipment and labor bid specifications and design drawings, requests for proposals, tabulation of bids, recommendation of successful bidder, approval of award and development of customer installation commitment documents
Supervise project activities for technical content, accuracy, cost control and schedule
Ensure that all design, code, licensing and operating and maintenance requirements are met
Coordinate activities between contractors / consultants / equipment vendors / customers to provide project construction quality assurance
Comply and enforce the compliance of hazardous material handling, safety and environmental procedures
Negotiate change orders to construction and services contracts and NYPA and program participant
Ensure that all financial resources expended by NYPA are fully recovered from each program participant
Strong knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles.
Strong knowledge of building mechanical and electrical systems as well as chillers, boilers, HVAC and building envelope required.
Strong knowledge of local/state building code requirements.
Strong understanding of NYPA’s policies, operations, procedures and business objectives as well as those of the customers is preferred.
Technical knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines.
Strong understanding of the electric utility and energy services industries.
Solid understanding of the Authority’s interaction with other utilities regulatory agencies and customers.
Strong background and experience in interacting and liasoning with engineering consultants and labor contractors.
Strong project management skills with the ability to plan, execute and complete multiple projects from start to finish on time and within budget with minimal direction and support from supervisors.
Ability to work in a team oriented approach plan, execute and complete multiple projects.
Excellent interpersonal skills; good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to organize information and effectively present ideas to the intended audience.
Ability to receive verbal direction and follow-up with supervisor.
Must also work effectively with contractors and consultants and .have the ability to prepare reports and equipment reviews suitable for final submission.
Demonstrated ability to analyze existing conditions in a facility, and address issues related to contracts, equipment design and operation
Ability to analyze and address environmental concerns as they relate to customer requirements and, with the guidance of more senior engineers and develop cost effective, engineering solutions to non-routine problems. Ability to exercise good judgment and influence others, while working effectively with consultants, contractors, and equipment suppliers. Ability to proactively recognize problems that arise during analysis procedures or in analysis results.
In-depth knowledge of NYPA policies and business resource management is desirable.
Ability to further develop technical knowledge in utility service rate analyses (gas & Electric), energy analysis, life cycle cost analysis, NYPA contracts, project financing strategies, and energy systems and controls is required
The team is seeking a professional with a minimum of 7 years similar experience. Individual to possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline. Professional certifications such as Project Management Professional Certification (PMPC) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or an advanced degree in an engineering, scientific or business discipline preferred. The candidate will be called upon to work on multiple projects simultaneously and have the ability to maintain clear, concise written and oral communication on all interactions.
Project Management and multi discipline Engineering.
Professional certifications such as Project Management Professional Certification (PMPC) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or an advanced degree in an engineering, scientific or business discipline preferred.
Qualifications to sit for Part I of the PE exam preferred.
