Job Description

The Power Contracts Analyst position is a specialized role whose purpose is the negotiation, interpretation and management of a wide ranging portfolio of contracts and documents governing the contractual relationship with our customers. The role is critical in protecting NYPA’s interests as it pertains to legal agreements under which we sell our power products or offer financial incentives. The Power Contracts Analyst also performs NYPA’s regulatory function pertaining to our full requirements municipal and electric cooperative customers. The Power Contracts Analyst performs day-to-day contract management duties for each agreement including associated service tariff administration. Additionally, the role manages the customer relationship with Neighboring States customers, Investor-Owned Utility customers (including LIPA/PSEGLI), the Host Community/Relicensing customers and the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority. The Power Contracts Analyst coordinates NYPA’s internal team-based approach by bringing together our business, financial, operational and legal roles to move forward with new contracts and/or to resolve contract issues. The role will interact externally with customers, FERC, PSC, NYISO, and other stakeholders.

  • Assist with development of new power contracts including new or modified standard terms and/or conditions

  • Support the trustee item and public hearing processes

  • Assist with contract and tariff management including efficient and effective handling of contracting process

  • Support the periodic quality control and quality assurance activities on the portfolio of executed contracts and standard templates

  • Support the administration of the Power Contracts Summary report

  • Assist in transmission congestion contract management procedures

  • Assist and support the hydropower surplus/ shortfall contractual requirement process and administration

  • Assist with NYPA’s role of regulating the full requirement municipal and cooperative utility customers

  • Support customer relationship management with Power Contracts group’s direct customers (Neighboring States, investor-owned utility, Niagara Relicensing/ Host Community customers and the NFTA)

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of the utility industry and NYISO market is required.

  • Basic knowledge of economics, finance and contract/ legal concepts and theories.

  • Excellent analytical skills required, including demonstrated qualitative and/ or quantitative analysis.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and Excel.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is required.

  • Ability to work in a team environment is required.

  • Basic understanding of the various standard legal terms & conditions used in NYPA power contracts.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Finance, or related discipline is required.

  • Minimum of 2years of analytical experience is preferred.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in utility industry is preferred.
