Eversource Energy Litigation Counsel in Westwood, Massachusetts

Role and Scope of Position:

The Litigation Counsel position, which reports to the Assistant General Counsel, Litigation and Dispute Resolution in the Legal Department, involves representation of the Eversource companies in a variety of litigation matters in state and federal court, and in certain state and federal agency proceedings. The successful candidate may also actively manage and partner with the company's outside counsel as necessary. Responsibilities will also include advising internal clients on various legal risks; conducting research and preparing related memoranda, providing strategic direction of ongoing and threatened litigation matters, and resolution, either through trial, dispositive motion, or settlement, of claims and litigation against the company.

Essential Functions:

  • Requires hands-on litigation experience, including drafting pleadings, motion practice, preparing witnesses as well as deposition and some trial experience.
  • The successful candidate must be self-motivated and be able to immediately assume an active caseload, working closely with other in-house legal resources, company management, and, in certain matters, outside counsel.
  • Being a strong team player, well-organized, and able to identify business-oriented solutions to complex legal problems are essential qualities to ensure success in this position.
  • Responds to inquiries on legal matters from, and provides legal advice to, Eversource personnel and management. Reviews operational and strategic decisions analyzing legal implications.
  • Participates in preparation and prosecution of litigation and, in limited circumstances, regulatory proceedings, before state and federal courts by drafting pleadings, responding to discovery and assisting in the preparation of witnesses and briefs.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Requires complex organizational and analytical skills. Ability to use PC desktop applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Email).
  • Knowledge and use of eDiscovery tools is essential

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate Degree

Experience :

  • Seeking candidate with four (4) to eight (8) years of litigation experience in a law firm or corporate legal department

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Membership in Massachusetts bar (state and federal) is required. Member of New Hampshire and Connecticut bars is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

  • Work is performed primarily in an office hybrid environment with occasional time spent in field (site inspections) and in court or before administrative agencies, as necessary.

Mental Aspects :

  • Work includes involvement in time-sensitive projects having an appreciable impact on Eversource’s success. Involved, at times, in frequent adversarial/confrontational situations.
  • This role works in an environment that often requires the performance of multiple simultaneous activities, where deadlines need to be met and work is performed under pressure while involving significant business commitments and results.

Eversource Energy offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $142,000-$156,000, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Please check our career site for an overview of our benefits.
