Job Description

OBJECTIVE OF POSITION

To develop, implement and direct activities that promote the Cooperative’s electric business and enhance the public image of the Cooperative.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain good relations with elected officials, cooperative customers/members, employees and the general public.

  • Participate in Home Builders Association and provide professional presentations for community, civic and service organizations concerning safety, efficient use of energy; load management and general information relative to the Cooperative.

  • Initiate, plan and develop programs which will maintain communications with residential developers, builders, architects, related contractors and real estate agents in order to promote the Cooperative’s programs; i.e. load management.

  • Develop and maintain good public relations with the Cooperative’s key accounts.

  • Present electrical safety and educational programs for schools and civic groups in counties served by the Cooperative.

  • Coordinate the Cooperative’s legislative program, direct letter writing campaigns and keep abreast of potential legislative and regulatory issues.

  • Coordinate Youth Tour on local level and serve as a chaperone on annual Youth Tour.

  • Plan and prepare articles forCooperative Livingmagazine to meet required deadlines.

  • Coordinate development and placement of advertising in radio and area publications, (including local newspapers), group publications, school yearbooks, etc.

  • Coordinate the Cooperative’s donations to civic and charitable organizations.

  • Plan and prepare billing inserts as needed to meet required deadlines.

  • Plan and prepare advertising campaigns and promotional materials for all services and products offered by the Cooperative.

  • Assist customers with surge protection claims and/or problems.

  • Serve as Cooperative Communicator during periods of wide-spread outages, disaster and at other times when it is important to communicate with customers and the general public.

  • Coordinate logistics of Annual Meeting of Members.

  • Plan and prepare the Annual Report.

  • Coordinate special projects, as necessary.

  • Assist in resolving member complaints, as needed.

  • Webmaster for the Cooperative. Updates web pages and keeps the front page current.

  • Update Emergency Response Plan as needed.

  • Perform duties on Emergency response Team, as needed.

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with a minor in journalism, marketing, communications or related field is required. Other fields of study will be considered in conjunction with relevant experience and background. Courses in communications preferred.

Training and Experience:

Must be or become a Certified Cooperative Communicator (CCC) within 3 years. Must develop a strong working knowledge of the cooperatives policies and procedures. Must have good written and oral communication skills, organizational and presentation skills, and the ability to meet and deal with customers, potential customers and the general public in a professional and courteous manner.

Physical Requirements:

Required to pass an entrance physical-medical examination, including drug screening.

Physical Demands:

Typical office job. Essentially desk work. Some walking, standing, sitting, reaching and bending. Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated and ventilated office. Must be willing to attend and participate in meetings of the Cooperative or associated organizations outside of regular office hours.
