Exelon is looking for a Senior Emergency Preparedness Specialist at our Nuclear Midwest Headquarters in Warrenville, IL (Western suburbs of Chicago, IL)


Provides fleet wide leadership and management of EP functions, programs and processes in their functional area. Performs advanced program development, maintenance, and planning in support of the Emergency Preparedness Program. Is responsible for technical-decision making and problem solving related to emergency preparedness and response. Possess excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry standards and regulations.


  • Provides leadership and in-depth technical expertise to develop, manage and implement emergency preparedness activities and programs.

  • Support EP Administration and Maintenance activities through coordination of EP activities, coordination and support of EP self-assessments/audits/inspections, maintenance of the E - Plan/station annexes/EP procedures/equipment, off-site interfaces, EP training and other associated activities.

  • Provides leadership and technical expertise and consultation through direct involvement to identify and resolve emergency response program issues.

  • Support the drill and exercise program through support of scheduling, scenario development, evaluation, report generation and disposition of findings.



  • Bachelors degree and 6 years industry experience


  • Applicable Professional certification

(i. e. , Licensed Operator, CHP, ) and 6 years industry experience


  • Associates Degree with 8 years overall


-5 years experience in Operations and/or Radiation Protection



  • Possesses specialty skills and performs advanced tasks independent with minimal supervisory review.

  • Performs tasks independently and actively imparts knowledge and mentoring to others. Must be able to manage and implement emergency preparedness programs across the fleet and has wide latitude to make decisions within accountabilities.

Position Specific Roles / Responsibilities:

  • EP Programs Specialist

  • Manage, plan, organize and direct the review, revision and implementation of the Emergency Plan, Station Annexes, Implementing Procedures and Administrative Documents. Plan, organize and conduct of the department Self - Evaluation Program to include both Station and Corporate programs. Manage changes and controls for Emergency Action Levels (EALs). Maintain EP administrative documentation controls.

  • Radiological Specialist

  • Oversee and manage the maintenance and development of computer software and associated procedures for offsite radiation dose assessment in nuclear emergencies in order to protect the health and safety of the public and to meet regulatory commitments. Provide EP radiological and medical training. Maintain EP monitoring location databases and associated maps. Support maintenance and development of core damage assessment procedures. Support EP exercises by developing offsite radiological data for scenarios and by controlling and evaluating exercises. Support coordination of annual emergency medical drills.

  • Drill and Exercise Specialist

  • Manage the Drill and Exercise program through coordination of evaluators and players, development and conduct of drills, and disposition of findings. Develop the exercise scenario manuals and coordinate scenario development team activities. Develop drill and exercise reports. Coordinate NRC, FEMA, State, and local exercise scheduling and development activities.

  • ERO Training Specialist

  • Coordinate and schedule ERO qual/requalification training. Develop and maintain the ERO Lesson Plans, Examinations, and Qualification Cards. Oversee the maintenance of ERO training records, maintain the Corporate ERO Duty Roster, and coordinate and conduct Emergency Medical Assistance Program training. Support offsite activities through by providing oversight of the training of offsite response personnel, maintaining relationships with offsite agencies, and ensuring integration of plans between Exelon and offsite agencies.

  • Facilities and Equipment Specalist

  • Manage the maintenance, inventory, surveillance and performance monitoring programs for the emergency facilities. Manage and coordinate the telecommunication systems and computers for the emergency facilities. Manage the maintenance, testing, configutation control, and administration of the siren systems. Perform project management functions for equipment replacement and upgrades.

  • Manage the ERO Activation Systems (Dialogics).

  • Offsite Coordinator

  • Coordinate Plan Integration between the Exelon Nuclear EP Plan and the State/Counties Plans for Radiological Accidents. Assisting counties with plan revision reviews and coordination of changes between applicable agencies. Schedule, coordinate and conduct Offsite Radiological Emergency Preparedness Training. Maintain Offsite Radiological Emergency Plan training records. Assist with development and review of the Annual Letters of Certification (ALC) or Annual Letters of Agreement (LOA) with respective/affected states and counties, etc. Maintain offsite equipment and readiness capabilities. Assistance with inventories kept at relocation centers and hospitals. Exercise Support for Exelon Nuclear and Offsite Agencies including states and counties.
