National Grid SAP Center of Excellence Director in Waltham, Massachusetts

_About the position:_

The SAP COE Director (SAP CoE) will provide deep technical expertise and technical governance of National Grid’s overall SAP landscape. This COE will partner closely with functional tower teams, business customers, and other IT stakeholders to ensure that National Grid maximizes the SAP investment and integrate efficiently and consistently with the broader ecosystem.

The Director will be responsible for leading a team of senior SAP platform and data architects who will partner with key stakeholders and leadership to provide technical leadership and governance. This team of SAP “experts” will support transformation, delivery and realization of SAP solutions across several areas including: Finance & Controlling, HR, HCM, Accounting, Supply Chain, Analytics/Business Intelligence (BI), Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC), Sales & Distribution among other modules.

*Job responsibilities including but not limited to:*

  • Own and lead overall SAP technical governance in partnership with functional teams and the SAP managed service provider

  • Continually assess the impact of emerging SAP technologies against strategic business needs and interpret business value for the leadership team in a consultative capacity

  • Own Executive level communication and interaction including consulting, and translating tower needs and strategies into achievable and sustainable technical architectures

  • Hire, coach, train, and lead a high calibre and diverse team of professional SAP architects who will provide SAP platform and data architecture expertise to the enterprise

  • Ensure the consistency and maintainability of new and existing SAP applications by creating, maintaining, and enforcing technical standards, guidance and reference architectures

  • Lead efforts to ensure the workplace environment supports a highly motivated and effective workforce focused on continuous improvement and best practices

  • Experience with global implementations of CRM programs, expert knowledge of sales technology solutions, and decision support tools.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks with flexibility and deliver results on time.

  • Understand industry trends, best practices especially with respect to the utilities industry

  • Demonstrate forward thinking to identify key trends, understand the business’ strategies and develop and deliver mobility solutions and content that meet business needs and latest trends

  • Identify, source, mine, and leverage external data to achieve identified outcomes

  • Drive the vision, strategy, roadmap and implementation of performance indicators and supporting metrics and trends for SAP solutions

  • Seek out continuous improvement opportunities and provide input and recommendations

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts.

  • Responsible for developing, implementing and managing company’s SAP strategy

  • Coordinate cross-functional and cross-application work teams toward task completion

_Main Interfaces:_

  • Reports to the USIS VP of Program Delivery

  • Collaborates with project and program delivery teams to enable solution delivery success

Communicate SAP COE goals and vision to executive leadership

_Knowledge, Experience & Technical Know How:_


  • Significant experience building and leading SAP architecture and governance functions at an enterprise level including the creation and architecture standards, reference architectures and data models

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities demanding both rigorous attention to detail and high level comprehensive solutions

  • 8-10 years of progressive experience in SAP, application development

  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience

  • Experience in working in cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively at the senior leadership levels of a company

  • Experience integrating SAP solutions into a broad array of non-legacy technologies and architectures

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written



_Qualifications Required:_

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or related discipline with 5-8 years of practical experience (required)

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or related discipline and relevant experience architecting complex solutions (preferred)

*Knowledge & Technical Know-how:*

  • Deep knowledge of SAP technical and functional architecture, data model along with new and emerging SAP capabilities

  • Knowledge of SAP capabilities in the areas of financials, supply chain, BI/analytics and GRC preferred

  • High degree of proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent writing proficiency, visual design, and presentation skills required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills

  • Prior experience managing Mobility implementations, upgrades, transitions

  • Strong working knowledge of SAP Modules (e.g., BC, EP/PI, FICO, GRC, HANA, HCM, SCM, SD)

  • Experience leveraging critical thinking and exposure to change management principles

  • Excellent writing proficiency, visual design, and presentation skills required
