_About the Graduate Development Program:_
National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is the company’s flagship pipeline program, targeting recent college graduates joining the company in entry-level full time positions. The GDP is designed to prepare early career professionals for future leadership roles within the organization, aims to support Graduates in developing as leaders, guide their career, and increase their business talents and skills. It provides opportunities for Graduates to explore a broad range of disciplines across our functions and locations, work on a variety of projects, and expand their network.
Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an 8-week Orientation. Graduates will spend time learning the core functions of the business, networking with our Executive team, and traveling to our different jurisdictional areas. By the end of Orientation, Graduates have an in depth understanding of who National Grid is as a company and how we do business. They have also formed a network with their fellow Graduates as well as senior business leaders, key GDP stakeholders and GDP Alumni. Graduates also take part in quarterly development sessions with their cohort as well as complete a Capstone Project at the end of their first year with the company.
_About the Position:_
The Strategic Sourcing Associate is an entry level role within the Sourcing Organization. The Associate will be supporting the Strategic Sourcing Manager._ _Experience should include exposure to; category management, supplier relationship management, commercial negotiations, procurement process management and improvement and systems & analytics.
_Essential Duties & Responsibilities:_
Uses awareness of external market needs to make effective business decisions with the guidance of others.
Breaks business requirements into a list of actions or activities.
With stakeholder guidance, translates business requirements using understanding of the business and the market
Understands and is able to operate the Sourcing Process effectively and compliantly.
Applies knowledge in transactional and less complex sourcing activity.
Able to support operational and strategic sourcing activities
Has an awareness of business needs across the organization.
__Supplier Relationship Management
Understands the sourcing strategy and contract management tactics for their area of activity.
Understands key commercial contractual risk and mitigations and acts accordingly.
Understands the need for and supports the tracking of benefits
Has an awareness of environmental and social sustainability reporting and legislation.
Understands key supplier relationships and dynamics and is able to work collaboratively alongside suppliers.
Displays awareness around the needs of a given process or situation, taking a single course of action to negotiate
Has a good awareness of key principles of contract terms, how to negotiate and when to engage legal support.
Understands key contract terms and can negotiate changes with legal support
Understands own negotiation objectives
Limited understanding of adversary's goals
Able to present summary commercial case (e.g. price) to internal stakeholders
Procurement Process Management and Improvement
Has an awareness of performance measures put upon themselves
Has an awareness of overall benefits management.
Able to identify, own and deliver minor changes·
Systems and Analytics
Has an awareness of the various systems used across the Procurement function.
Understands basic data analysis and statistical methods
Understands the concept of total cost of ownership
Market and Supplier Development
Has an awareness of NG's current global sourcing efforts
Basic understanding of criteria for alternative country sourcing suitability for sourced components
With stakeholder guidance, can identify how business needs may be met through alternative country sourcing
Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution
Concentration in academic studies on supply chain, finance or business management required. C.P. M or equivalent certifications preferred.
Graduated between May 2017 and May 2018
Experience in strategic sourcing, contract negotiations and vendor management preferred
Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation
Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills
Preference given to candidates with relevant internship experiences
Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 4, 2018
Valid driver's license with safe driving history
Proven leadership experience in at least /one/ of the following:
o College leadership position (e.g., student government, clubs, athletics).
o Leadership and/or volunteer experience, in and/or out of the college environment
o Experienced a full or part-time job while at college and acquired relevant work experience
