About the Graduate Development Program:



National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is the company’s flagship pipeline program, targeting recent college graduates joining the company in entry-level full time positions. The GDP is designed to prepare early career professionals for future leadership roles within the organization, aims to support Graduates in developing as leaders, guide their career, and increase their business talents and skills. It provides opportunities for Graduates to explore a broad range of disciplines across our functions and locations, work on a variety of projects, and expand their network.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an 8-week Orientation. Graduates will spend time learning the core functions of the business, networking with our Executive team, and traveling to our different jurisdictional areas. By the end of Orientation, Graduates have an in depth understanding of who National Grid is as a company and how we do business. They have also formed a network with their fellow Graduates as well assenior business leaders, key GDP stakeholders and GDP Alumni. Graduates also take part in quarterly development sessions with their cohort as well as complete a Capstone Project at the end of their first year with the company.

About the Position:



Pressure Regulation Engineering (PRE) provides consistent, risk-based asset management of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) assets in addition to managing assets for 1,800 Pressure Regulating stations. Our team culture is self-directed and empowered. PRE team members have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, interacting broadly with various internal stakeholders. PRE develops long and short term investment plans for LNG, CNG and Pressure Regulation assets, providing an energy asset roadmap towards a reliable and sustainable future.

This position creates the strategy and delivers the documentation for National Grid's records for transmission connected regulating stations. It also creates the capital program for replacing undocumented piping as well as component analysis and testing to ensure that National Grids stations operating at transmission pressure meet the PHMSA guidelines for safe and reliable operation of transmission assets. This position develops the IMP (Integrity Management) program in accordance with Federal and State rules and regulations.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Make informed, authoritative technical asset plans for maintenance and capital investment in support of the Pressure Regulation IMP program

  • Translate IMP program requirements into clearly defined business cases, and budgets.

  • Direct and deliver a range of engineering services, and solutions to enable capital improvements to mitigate system integrity damage or substandard conditions and meet the required standards of maintenance and construction.

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an engineering discipline or materials science

  • Graduated between May 2017 and May 2018

  • Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation

  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Preference given to candidates with relevant internship experiences

  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 4, 2018

  • Valid driver’s license with safe driving history

  • Proven leadership experience in at least/one/of the following:

o College leadership position (e.g., student government, clubs, athletics).

o Leadership and/or volunteer experience, in and/or out of the college environment

o Experienced a full or part-time job while at college and acquired relevant work experience

  • Previous experience in working with design drawings and various material specifications

  • Knowledge of welding processes

  • Ability to work with Non Destructive Examination personnel, construction personnel, and Engineering Consultants
