About the Graduate Development Program:
National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is the company’s flagship pipeline program, targeting recent college graduates joining the company in entry-level full time positions. The GDP is designed to prepare early career professionals for future leadership roles within the organization, aims to support Graduates in developing as leaders, guide their career, and increase their business talents and skills. It provides opportunities for Graduates to explore a broad range of disciplines across our functions and locations, work on a variety of projects, and expand their network.
Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an 8-week Orientation. Graduates will spend time learning the core functions of the business, networking with our Executive team, and traveling to our different jurisdictional areas. By the end of Orientation, Graduates have an in depth understanding of who National Grid is as a company and how we do business. They have also formed a network with their fellow Graduates as well assenior business leaders, key GDP stakeholders and GDP Alumni. Graduates also take part in quarterly development sessions with their cohort as well as complete a Capstone Project at the end of their first year with the company.
About the Position:
Assists the engineers in the Retail Connections Policy & Standards (RCPS) department providing the development and assurance of technical policies, guides, and standards related to interconnection and service systems for primarily distributed energy resource (DER) systems in compliance with regulatory tariffs and industry and Company best practices and for delivery to the electric asset management and other Company groups to ensure consistency of and compliance with regulated customer energy integration processes.
Position responsibilities include (but are not limited to:
Performing some electrical distribution system analytical modeling for load flow, short circuit, grounding, voltage flicker, protective device coordination, fault sensitivity, risk-of-islanding, and transient condition engineering analyses to evaluate DG impacts on the EPS in support of DPAM interconnection and protection engineering activities of complex distributed generation (DG) facilities integrating with National Grid’s electric power system (EPS).
Supports the review and evaluation of the technical specifications of DER interconnection systems and recommend technical design and process improvements.
Supports outreach by RCPS internal and external to National Grid on DER interconnection and service system requirements in MA, NY, and RI.
Engineering Graduate Rotations:
Our engineers are shaping the future of the energy industry. This position will take part in our Engineering Graduate Development Rotational Program, an 18-month experience to help you develop technical and leadership skills. You will complete three 6-month rotations in varying engineering departments. Your first rotation will be in the role outlined above and you will return to this role following two other 6-month rotations where your knowledge of engineering and project management at National Grid will be expanded.
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
Concentration in academic studies relevant to one of the career paths
Graduated between May 2017 and May 2018
Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation
Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills
Preference given to candidates with relevant internship experiences
Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 4, 2018
Valid driver’s license with safe driving history
Proven leadership experience in at least/one/of the following:
o College leadership position (e.g., student government, clubs, athletics).
o Leadership and/or volunteer experience, in and/or out of the college environment
o Experienced a full or part-time job while at college and acquired relevant work experience
