The IT Security Technologies Specialist is located in Wadsworth, OH and reports to the Supervisor of Security Technologies and under general supervision, the individual will serve as a member of the IT Security Technologies team. Duties include: installation, configuration, administration and patching of IT security systems; design, develop and recommend integrated security system solutions; ensure the protection of confidential data and systems; provide technical engineering services for the support of integrated security systems and solutions; translate security and business requirements into technical designs; assess and improve the security posture for FirstEnergy IT Systems; analyze, identify and recommend controls for system life cycle;

Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing security products currently in use at FirstEnergy.

  • Performing detailed analysis of security data and design security systems to provide pro-active support for IT security issues.

  • Analyzing historical security logs to identify potential threats to the security of the FirstEnergy data network.

  • Monitoring / analyzing real-time activity in the FirstEnergy data network to identify any potential threats and stop them immediately.

  • Designing and implementing appropriate response(s) to the detected threat(s). This could include changes to security configurations of firewalls, anti-virus systems, intrusion prevention systems, etc.

  • Notifying appropriate groups of FirstEnergy personnel dependent on risk associated with the threat.

  • Analyzing client requests for security system modifications to ensure their compliance with security policy and identify any potential threat to security of the FirstEnergy data network. Design and implement appropriate changes to IT security products to accommodate those client requests.

  • Consulting with other IT Operations or IT Solutions teams to provide technical security expertise needed to ensure a fully secured implementation of new or modified systems

  • Designing, implementing, and continually updating the latest configurations for the wide array of IT security products used in the FirstEnergy data network. Examples are: Firewalls, VPN systems, web proxy servers, intrusion prevention systems, anti-virus and anti-malware, certificates, and authentication systems

  • Working with Cyber Security team to implement and enforce security policies.

  • Providing cross-training for daily support of FirstEnergy IT security products.

  • Providing a coordinated response to cyber attacks at FirstEnergy.

  • Assessing and improving security posture for IT Systems.

  • Analyzing, identifying and recommending security controls.

  • Designing, developing and recommending integrated security system solutions.

  • Ensuring the protection of confidential data and systems.

  • Providing technical engineering services for the support of integrated security systems and solutions.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business, MIS or similar discipline, or equivalent work experience.

  • SANS or CISSP security certifications preferred.

  • 2+ years professional work experience in IT Security Administration preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to grasp security concepts and demonstrated knowledge of security management practices, security architecture, security operations, and security modeling.

  • Knowledge of telecommunications, network and Internet security access control systems and methodology.

  • Experience in all or some of the following: Client/Server applications, Operating system technologies (UNIX, Linux, Window Server 2008/2012), Firewalls, VPN, Web Proxy, Intrusion Prevention Systems/Intrusion Detection Systems (IPS/IDS), Antivirus/Antimalware, Certificate Authority, Authentication Systems, Data Encryption, Regulatory Compliance, Network Protocols (TCP/IP, MPLS), Network Routing (IGRP, OSPF, BGP), Testing security products and systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to define and solve problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within groups

  • Strong analytical troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Proven skill in both written and oral communications.

  • Proven commitment to providing quality service and deliverables to clients in a timely manner.

  • Knowledgeable in process improvement methodology.

  • Experience managing projects with interdisciplinary teams strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated research and analysis skills.

  • Experience in facilitating creative problem solving sessions
