This position will be in the Fundamentals group at Avangrid Renewables. The successful candidate will work on highly technical, quantitative, and analytical initiatives and projects including, but not limited to, market simulation,power price forecasting, locational marginal price (LMP) analysis, renewable integration studies, and evaluation of the impact of market rule changes on these forecasts and analyses. The ideal candidate will also have experience in a wide range of software and coding, including the ability to scrape data from external and/or internal databases/websites and properly store and maintain these data. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability to conduct similar long-term power, gas, and Renewable Energy Credit (REC) fundamentals analyses as necessary to advance the work of Avangrid Renewables’ Fundamentals organization.


  • Perform market-wide (Independent System Operator markets) simulations using production simulation models (single node and nodal) as AuroraXmp or equivalent:

  • To support power price forecasting.

  • To assess incremental impacts of new generation and/or transmission additions on locational factors (e.g., marginal congestion and line loss costs).

  • Improve the company’s modeling capabilities in simulations.

  • Conduct power flow studies using PowerWorld Simulator (or equivalent) to perform relevant network analyses.

  • Perform different types of studies such as renewable asset integration studies and production cost analysis for different generation technologies.

  • Support company’s efforts to evaluate scenario analyses.

  • Provide analytical support to various projects at the direction of senior managers



  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (power system emphasis desired), Mathematics or related quantitative field with strong preference given to candidates with solid educational background in power systems analysis orequivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience

  • Must have experience with power systems and simulations using constrained economic dispatch models

  • Extensive knowledge of power market simulation/optimization models and transmission systems analysis tools

  • Demonstrated experience with ISO market operations with respect to LMP modeling and working with optimization

models, including detailed knowledge of optimization and quantitative methods underlying market simulations, unit commitment and economic dispatch

  • 5 years of experience in transmission and market simulation modeling or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), PJM, NE-ISO, MISO, ERCOT or NYISO market design and operations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical personnel at all organizational levels. Must work collaboratively with Fundamentals colleagues in the US and Spain, and with internal stakeholders

  • Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovations and market rule changes that impact job responsibilities
