Group Description:

The Stearns Roger Services Product Line provides support to US utilities in the maintenance, operation and continuous improvement of nuclear fuel handling equipment, with an emphasis on refueling outage performance. Stearns Roger Services is an OEM of fuel handling equipment, and continues to provide both new replacement systems as well as modernization and performance upgrades to existing installed equipment. The group is comprised of an engineering development and support team and a field operations team of service technicians. Typical component types include bridges with trolleys that move in 2 directions, hoists for vertical movement, PLC controls, HMI, and motors with variable speed drives.

Job Description:

AREVA is seeking anField Service Rep I-III to work from AREVA's office located onMill Ridge Road in Lynchburg, VA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support installed fuel handling equipment during pre-outage maintenance activities and refueling outages.

  • Support design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, and installation of new fuel handling equipment or modifications to existing installed equipment.

  • Interface with the clients and troubleshoot equipment in the field.

  • Perform training / instructor activities when required for both internal and external students.

  • Support AREVA Stearns Roger Services Leak Detection and Repair Projects.

Additional Responsibilities may include:

  • Conducts routine and non-routine tasks, operates specialized equipment, takes measurements, extracts and compiles data regarding equipment and process performance; collates data on task and outage performance.

  • Develops reports consisting of calculations, tables, and data related to equipment performance; maintains maintenance logs and certification documents.

  • Develops maintenance procedures, problem reports, field schedules and task close out reports, as needed.

  • Participates in planning and execution of contracted projects; assists in preparation of proposal and procurement documents in support of future opportunities.

  • Provide input to training materials and equipment manuals.

Typical projects include:

  • Fuel Handling Equipment service and support at customer locations. Includes pre-outage maintenance, troubleshooting during refueling outage, and support of new equipment installation or modifications to existing systems.

  • Assist in the design, assembly and testing of new electrical/mechanical equipment. The equipment may be semi-/fully-automated and associated hoists, pumps and motors and control systems.

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.

  • Field Service Rep I: High school diploma, or equivalent education with a minimum of 0-2 years of related experience. Additional related training/education may be substituted for comparable years of experience.

  • Field Service Rep II: High school diploma, or equivalent education with a minimum of 2-4 years of related experience. Additional related training/education may be substituted for comparable years of experience

  • Field Service Rep III: High school diploma, or equivalent education with a minimum of 4-6 years of related experience. Additional related training/education may be substituted for comparable years of experience

  • Previous experience with Electrical components, I&C and/or mechanical

  • Electro-mechanical aptitude and creative ability; self-motivated to learn new systems

  • Must exhibit excellent verbal and written communications. Ability to effectively communicate with staff, management, vendors and customers

  • Ability to comprehend instructions, policies, procedures and guidelines required to perform assigned tasks

  • Complies with all applicable safety and health rules including personal dose compliance.

  • Work flexible hours and shifts, as required, to ensure timely service

  • Ability to lift 35 pounds, climb ladders and scaffolding, and pass a crane operator physical

  • Must be willing to travel 75% to support outage related work

  • Strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills

  • Advanced PC skills, word processing, scheduling, spreadsheets.


Seasonal domestic travel 75%. Typical deployments center around Spring/Fall outage windows.
