Job Description Position Description

The Telecom Engineering Planning position is responsible to the Manager-Telecom Engineering Planning for the multi-year planning, estimating and scope development of various Telecom networks to support electric system operations and general corporate business needs. This position will also require extensive interaction with various business units including multiple Transmission teams, Distribution and Telecom engineering/project groups.

Job Scope & Responsibilities

  • Review, prioritize and categorize projects based on various initiatives.

  • Define Telecom architecture and develop scope/estimates for planned projects.

  • Work with business units to develop technology plans to support various long term strategies and project initiatives.

  • Drive the overall planning strategy for the Telecom Engineering teams to support system growth, new technologies, bandwidth upgrades and future applications with regard to the Transport, Corporate, SCADA and gridSMART networks.

  • Create multi-year forecast for inclusion in Capital budgets (BU and Telecom).

  • Develop tools, work flow process and best practices to document and maintain estimation/costing methods, procedures and technologies.

  • Work with the Telecom Carrier Services team to help identify multi-year O&M lease line cost savings.

  • Facilitate and assist with engineering standards and guidelines.

  • Communicate project scopes and schedules to various Telecom Engineering, Projects and Operation teams to support resource planning and deliverables.

  • Provide project management support (material, labor, schedules and financial).

Minimum Requirements

NOTE: This opportunity may be filled at any of the following levels based on one’s Education, related Work Experience and skills;

Minimum Requirements for IT Network Consultant Sr:

Education: Bachelor degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science or telecommunications.

Experience: ( 6) Years of relevant experience with Bachelor Degree or (10) years relevant experience without one of the Bachelor Degrees listed above.

Minimum Requirements for IT Network Consultant:

Education: Bachelor degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science or telecommunications.

Experience: ( 4) Years of relevant experience with Bachelor Degree or (8) years relevant experience without one of the Bachelor Degrees listed above.

Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver License Required

Requirements Other:

Experience

  • Knowledge and/or experience with Telecom networks including optical fiber, Transport networks, Ethernet/IP or SCADA

  • Knowledge and/or experience with Transmission or Distribution systems in support of the planning, engineering, operation, procedures or technologies

  • Experience in working with peer engineers and technicians to develop long range plans, implementation of scopes and remedial courses of action

  • Experience in working with customers to define requirements and project scopes

  • Experience in planning and budgeting network additions and changes
