We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of Human Resources Generalist I, II or Senior . The successful candidate will coordinate and administer a wide range of Human Resources programs and services. Assist managers and line staff with employment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, labor relations and other general human resources functions.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Recruit exempt and non-exempt unclassified personnel: place advertisements, develop promotional material; conduct personal interviews, perform reference checks, prepare related correspondence, and negotiate job offers. Coordinate all staff relocations with the Procurement and Contract Services and outside temporary housing agencies to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Conduct exit interviews with staff to determine reasons for separation and possible areas for improvement. Monitor results and analyze trends in order to make recommendations for appropriate action when necessary.
  • Compiles data and files reports in conformance with various state and federal regulatory agencies or organizational needs. Responsible for daily/weekly/monthly audits on various system reports including employment status changes, intra-company system consistency, and leave tracking.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

HR Generalist I:

  • Performs complex and confidential administrative functions in support of the Human Resources and Labor Relations department including but not limited to; typing, filing, scheduling, developing complex spreadsheet tracking reports, coordination of interviews, meetings, conferences and seminars, obtaining supplies, coordinating direct mailings, and working on special projects. Also assembles highly confidential and sensitive information. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.
  • Administers the FMLA program, including initiating medical and option forms, arranging for their completion within time limits, correspondence generation, record keeping, file maintenance, and HRIS entry. Counsels employees and management on program provisions to ensure their understanding and compliance with program provisions and regulations.
  • Manages the Company’s Educational Assistance Program. Processes requests for payment, ensures accuracy of invoices received and payments disbursed.
  • Administers employee stock option program, including tracking options exercised, creating weekly Request for Wire Transfers of tax to IRS and Arizona DOR and daily journal entries to track tax and cash received by UNS, pulling and distributing monthly, quarterly and annual reports. Assist employees and pull special reports as needed.
  • Serve as backup to the Compensation Group by assisting with preparing classified pension calculations.

HR Generalist II:

  • With minimal guidance, provides support and direction of moderate complexity to managers and or employees on a daily basis regarding a variety of labor and employee relations or Human Resources type issues such as compensation, performance management, sexual harassment, medical benefits and simple to moderately complex legal issues, etc.
  • Provides conflict resolution by acting as a mediator, facilitator and/or counselor, to motivate managers and employees to ensure constant, equal and fair treatment of one another that is in line with the philosophy of the organization and in compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Oversees the administration of the FMLA Program and ensures the plan is administered in accordance with federal and state regulations and that program provisions are followed.
  • Assists managers/supervisors with development of new job descriptions and evaluate/revise current job descriptions based on changes in department structure and/or needs and recommend appropriate job titles for consistency within the organization.
  • Resolves employee issues related to health and welfare plans. Refers difficult or very complex complaints to corporate as needed. Assists with coordinating annual open enrollment period. Conducts employee presentations. Processes changes within deadlines.

HR Generalist Senior:

  • Has primary responsibility for complex Human Resources research, analysis and compliance.
  • Top level individual contributor; often integrates multiple phases of a project. Leads several complex projects at the same time and assists others on complex projects.
  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding human resources. Participate on committees, and special projects and seeks additional responsibilities.

Human Resource Generalist Level I

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts degree, and at least 2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations, such as ERISA, EEO, FLSA, affirmative action, etc.
  • Proficiency in use of personal computer applications, including spreadsheet, word processing, relational database (PeopleSoft and 20/20 preferred), and presentation software.
  • Ability to collect, compile, and analyze statistical information and data, and interpret and apply laws and policies.

Human Resource Generalist Level II

Minimum qualifications

  • Must possess considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures utilized in recruitment, assessment, selection, affirmative action, and employee counseling and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups across functional lines.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s Degree preferred, and 3-5 years previous human resources experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Human Resource Generalist Senior

Minimum qualifications

  • Must possess considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures utilized in recruitment, assessment, selection, affirmative action, and employee counseling and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups across functional lines.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree preferred, and 7 or more years previous human resources experience with specific experience in employee relations, recruitment and selection, benefits administration, compensation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (PHR/CP) or Senior professional (SPHR/SCP) a plus.
