Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets

that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position overview

This position will be in the South Bay district within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission & Distribution Organizational Unit. The Underground/Van Crew General Foreman will be directly responsible for supervising multiple underground van crews in performing new construction, maintenance and repairs of the electrical distribution system during both normal and storm conditions.

Responsibilities include

  • Ensuring that all aspects directly related to the construction and maintenance activities are optimized including: material management, resource utilization and crew productivity, while continually ensuring that safe work practices are followed.

  • Communicating corporate policies, goals and objectives to crew members and ensuring their compliance.

  • Completing work orders in the field as designed per the DDS, Overhead & Underground Construction Standards manuals.

  • Following proper accounting procedures for all materials needed for projects and ensuring that it is correctly accounted for through the work order.

  • Ensuring appropriate training of all subordinates including: coaching and mentoring, career development, as well as administering recognition and discipline while demonstrating the highest standards of ethics and integrity.

  • Responsibility for meeting safety, financial, customer satisfaction, reliability and environmental corporate goals as they relate directly to Distribution, Construction and Maintenance.

  • Interfacing with subordinates, peers, all levels of management, multi SCE departments and external customers regarding daily work activities as well as short and long term projects; and other duties as directed.

  • This position could be called upon to act as Duty Supervisor, Field Supervisor, storm, and/or other support activities after regular work hours.

  • Creating and maintaining a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.

  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

  • Must have supervisory and/or team leadership experience.

  • Must have experience in the operation and/or construction and maintenance of the electric system.

  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Desired qualifications

  • Associate Degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Three or more years of experience as a journeyman lineman.

  • Five or more years combined experience performing and/or supervising activities related to the operation and/or construction and maintenance of the electric distribution system.

  • Experience working with environmental compliance and regulatory requirements, including hazardous waste and yard management.

  • Knowledge or experience with Transformers and other Oil-Filled/ gas filled Electrical Equipment process as related to the handling and disposal of all hazardous waste products generated by SCE and contractor facilities.

  • General knowledge of the procurement process.

  • In-depth knowledge of the material management process, Regional Prefabrication Center/Regional Supply Center and external vendors.

  • Experience working with bargaining unit employees along with the application of union agreement and handling labor relations and diversity issues.

  • Broad experience and adherence to safe work practice, implementation of organizational safety initiatives and injury prevention.

  • Strong background in construction/maintenance work methods, techniques, tools and equipment and switching procedures/ programs.

  • Coordinate and work with the operations team to schedule work and manage overtime jobs and activities.

  • Must work to meet and establish continuous improvement in performance metrics like Safety, outage start/ finish times, productivity, and Quality Control.

  • Strong Knowledge of GO 95, 128, 165 and Accident Prevention Manual safety rules.

  • Knowledge of distribution accounting and thorough paperwork closing work orders.

  • Must be customer focused to understand, communicate ideas, concepts and technical data, and appropriately respond to clients’ business needs.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

  • Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.

  • Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
