_Job Purpose:_

Determine and negotiate project estimated costs, constructability, and risk mitigation processes to drive efficient completion of contractor related projects and sharing of best practices. Ensure all projects are “ready for construction” prior to the actual start of construction activities. Identify and implement consistent streamlined work practices and processes across PM&CC to ensure the efficient and most effective use of resources with minimal supervision.







  • Lead project constructability review and estimated cost agreement process and teams, critical components of PM&CC’s contracting strategy and relationship

  • Verify design estimates and estimate costing elements (pricing, risk, constructibility) with diverse stakeholders (eg, Design, Project Mgmt, Contractors).

  • Identify, assess, and coordinate improvements in project “constructability” across multiple Contractors and geographies, including implementation of technologies, processes and policies to enable effective cost reduction initiatives, mitigate project risk, and improve safety.

  • Validate KPI and project performance reporting used for Contractor performance scoring.

  • Verify and achieve necessary Administrative Change Order approvals, realizing Network Strategy agreement, developing proper and auditable change Order documentation, and create appropriate Change Orders in the CS data base.

  • Facilitate and document estimate costing and preconstruction meetings to audit standards.

*Design Review*

  • Responsible for design verification & constructability, Safety by Design and design/cost improvement opportunities, continuous feedback, and assurance of efficient, safe, and technically compliant designs for Construction work.

  • Identify any outstanding requirements that could potentially delay the project schedule, including ensuring accuracy of GIS sketches, Storms work requests, selected CU’s/MU’s, and that all required project support documentation and dependencies (one-line diagrams, phasing diagrams, pole top details, environmental permits, highway permits, petitions, easements, etc.) are available prior to the start of construction.

  • Review and revise the proposed construction man-hours in Storms, validate against project scope, complexity, geography and constructability review.

  • Review project “Bill of Materials” ensure availability of critical and long lead time items

_Constructability Review_

  • Lead on site multi-dimensional review of design accuracy and constructability, including review of GIS sketches, Storms job cards, one—lines, overall electrical configuration (via the RCC or EMS data screens). Identify key points of discussion for pre-construction and Target Cost agreement, such as conductor setup locations, clearance issues, safety & work practices, pre/post construction operating voltages, conversion plans, phasing coordination, etc.

  • Ensure project readiness and all required infrastructure support is in place, including review of all pole and anchor locations to verify that they are set in the correct location (coordinate the correction effort with Verizon if required), completion of all required tree trimming, review required police / traffic control requirements, and identification any required customers outages to effectively complete construction.

  • Coordinate with Control Centers and Construction Supervisors to facilitate conversions needed to put newly installed assets in service, including supporting Construction Supervisors on design issues, standards interpretation, work practices, switching, phasing, field change orders, etc. Advise EMS screen and circuit configuration changes prior to the proposed construction being placed in service.


  • Lead and mentor lower level Contract Construction Planners to afford growth and development opportunities within and outside of PM&CC.

  • Support PM&CC team building initiatives, by demonstrating willingness and need to incorporate other functional areas into the constructability review process to ensure a solid constructability review that encompasses all opinions.

  • Support the Contract Construction Planning and Performance Manager in ensuring the defined processes and procedures are maintained in accordance with relevant National Grid practice.

  • Demonstrate National Grid values as a model for subordinates within the role.

  • Demonstrate the ability to cross geographies within NG to perform and teach Construction coordinating procedures and policies.

*Storm Support*

  • Support weather related incidents, including managing the contractor crew transfer sheet process, providing Emergency Storm room support, or field support as required in both NY and NE

_Knowledge & Experience Required:_

  • Robust background in Construction Management, Design Engineering.

  • Exceptional Project Management skills

  • Significant construction estimating experience


  • Demonstrated successful delivery of large projects requiring project management oversight.

  • Project Management Certification a plus

  • Excellent communications skills, including presentation skills

  • High degree of organizational skills

  • Excellent computer skills regarding specialized business applications

  • (STORMS / GIS) as well as Microsoft Office Applications.

  • Self motivating with the possibility of working independently, and taking responsibility for work.

_Job Dimensions:_

  • Responsible for design verification, Estimated Costing (ie, price and risk identification), Change Order agreement, and continuous improvement to ensure pricing & constructability of $50m electric construction work with multiple Contractors across NG geographies.
