About the Opportunity

This is an open position with Ohio Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [OEPP]


  • Testing, inspecting, maintaining and repairing related electrical equipment

  • Overhauling, replacing parts in and assembling oil and air insulated circuit breakers; maintaining associated auxiliary apparatus

  • Checking, repairing and maintaining regulators

  • Installing or removing insulators, conductors, busses and associated equipment

  • Ringing out control wires and cables; installing and checking wiring, controls, relays and instruments

  • Locating, diagnosing and correcting electrical troubles of moderate complexity in circuits and equipment

  • Performing switching operations

  • Overhauling, replacing parts and materials and assembling transformer components

  • Installing switchboard compartments and equipment

  • Setting up rigging tackle, blocking and scaffolding; moving and erecting equipment

  • Installing and removing temporary protective grounds

  • Replacing primary fuses


  • Two year Associate Degree in Utility Workers Technology or the equivalent in education, training and experience is required

  • Previous hands-on experience through Power Systems Institute program preferred

  • Basic knowledge of the elements of AC and DE electricity

  • Working knowledge of the maintenance, repair and construction procedures and practices related to substation work

  • Ability to work from moderately complex drawings and circuit diagrams

  • Thoroughly familiar with the use and application of protective equipment and apparatus for working on or near energized conductors

  • Possess a valid Class A commercial driver's license (CDL)

  • Willing to relocate to within 45 minutes from the reporting location

  • Willing to work extra and irregular hours
