AREVA Radiation Protection Technician (Temp) in Saskatchewan, Canada

POSITION DESCRIPTION


Reporting directly to the Radiation Supervisor/Coordinator , you will carry out all measurements prescribed in procedures and work instructions and record data collected as prescribed. Other responsibilities include:

  • Input data to appropriate databases or other records

  • Carry out all prescribed area, point and personnel monitoring and develop required records

  • Perform (or arrange for the performance of) calibration and maintenance of measuring devices and systems as prescribed

  • Train/mentor all employees as required by company programs

  • Liaise with supervisors and workers in all departments to ensure that actions in response to operational conditions are carried out as required

  • Provide assistance and advice to employees on radiation and radiation protection related matters

  • Understand the three basic principles of the environmental policy – comply with legislation, protect the environment and continually improve

  • Understand, and work to minimize, the impact of their work on the environment

  • Follow Procedure 715, Spill Response, by reporting any spill discovered to their Supervisor

  • Follow Procedure 712, Waste Management, by segregating wastes appropriately

  • Support the Environment Group in the designation of radioactive materials for the waste management program

  • Comply with the Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company health and safety policies, practices, and procedures, which apply to their work

  • Do your part of the Internal Responsibility System (Procedure 791) which includes the 5-point safety system

  • Display a high level of individual safety as well as safety for others

  • Immediately report any unsafe conditions or work practices to their supervisor

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.

  • Preference will be given to Resident of Saskatchewan’s North (RSN) candidates.

  • Post-secondary school graduate

  • 1-5 years’ experience in a field relating to radiation protection, health and safety, environmental protection, mathematics, physics, industrial hygiene monitoring or the uranium mining industry

  • Strong abilities in mathematics, physics and computers (i.e. databases) are considered an asset

  • Technical and/or report writing abilities is considered an asset
