This position is part of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) University and Campus Relations Internship Program. This paid opportunity to gain hands-on experience with meaningful work, while developing your skills, and building your network. The internship has an estimated start date of fall 2017/winter 2018 and an estimated end date of August/September 2018. Summer interns may have the potential to carry on as Year-Round interns, working part-time throughout the school year. Decisions to work as a Year-Round intern will be based upon summer performance, business need, and the interest of the intern

Transmission, Substations, & Operations

Transmission, Substations, & Operation (TS&O) is responsible for all grid operations, substation construction and maintenance, and transmission activities including system performance, reliability, compliance, and emergency response and restoration.

This opportunity will be within the Grid Operations department where the interns will be exposed to opportunities to create switching programs that allows SCE operators to shift load between circuits to make the work area safe for SCE and or Contact crews to perform high voltage 2.4kv -33kv work. It will also expose the interns on creating outage notifications that will be mailed to customers, outage alert notes for phone center personnel and scheduling of crew time requirements.

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position you must:

•Be currently be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or closely related engineering discipline at an accredited institution with a graduation date of December 2018 or later.

•Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher

•Have experience using MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

•Have strong oral, and written interpersonal skills

•Proven ability to interface effectively and collaborate with peers, clients, management, and other organizations

•Proven history of a self-starter, critical thinker, and problem solver

•Demonstrated ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices

Desired skills in any of the following:

•Power Systems Engineering Experience

•Demonstrated experience reading single line diagrams

•Experience with Microsoft Access, SharePoint, or Visio

•Demonstrated experience generating reports using SAP

•Demonstrated experience extracting data from operation systems and databases for production analysis purposes.

•Demonstrated experience programming experience with Python, VBA, R, or SQL

•Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD, PSPICE, LTSPICE, or Matlab

•Involvement with student clubs and organizations
