The Business Customer Division (BCD) of Customer Service is the primary contact for our business customers and serves as their Trusted Energy Advisor by meeting the energy-related needs of the various business, government and agricultural customers we serve in our 50,000 square miles of service territory. BCD Engineering & Design Solutions (E&DS) provides technical support to account management through the identification and quantification of integrated demand side management (IDSM) solutions for SCE customers and industry partners.
This position will be in the Engineering & Design Solutions (E&DS) group within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Customer Service Business Unit (CSBU). The successful candidate will be part of the Field Engineering team and will provide technical support to Customer Service Account Management within the BCD organization through on-site visits at governmental, commercial, industrial, water, and agriculture customer facilities making recommendations for technology solutions in support of IDSM programs, including Energy Efficiency, Demand Response, and Distributed Generation.
Provides recommendations to technical and nontechnical audiences including company owners, financial officers, process designers, equipment vendors, equipment/process operators, facility managers, administrators, and managers.
Reviews new construction project documents and auditing existing facilities across SCE territory to identify energy-related enhancements for buildings and processes.
Quantifies the resulting energy and economic impacts by performing engineering calculations with appropriate energy modeling software and/or excel based tools.
Prepares formal correspondence and reports to document the proposals and influence customers to adopt the recommendations.
Metering and testing of customer equipment, including energized electric panels, to determine load profiles and/or performance verification.
Provides individual coaching and calculation assistance to BCD employees.
Assists in the delivery of IDSM programs, including Energy Efficiency, Demand Response, and Distributed Generation and performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Participates collaboratively on cross-functional teams as a team lead and/or member to achieve successful results in support of business goals and corporate strategic objectives.
Assists with establishing and enhancing procedures, processes, calculation
A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related scientific/technical field.
Seven years of experience developing, recommending, and/or implementing integrated demand-side management (i.e., energy efficiency, demand response, and distributed generation) recommendations and solutions with customers and/or clients based on engineering assessments and calculations.
Experience working on engineering projects in several of the following areas: lighting, HVAC, building envelope, building energy simulation, controls, compressed air systems, refrigeration, and manufacturing & industrial processes.
Two years of experience performing evaluations of diverse customer projects by applying regulations, guides, standards, codes (e.g., Title 20 and 24), practices, and advanced engineering principles.
Experience using energy simulation modeling tools such as (eQuest, AirMaster , MotorMaster, IES VE , EnergyPro, and/or DOE2R)
A valid driver’s license and insurance and be able and willing to drive own vehicle to customer facilities throughout the SCE service territory.
Five or more years of experience developing and/or reviewing engineering projects seeking incentives from SCE Savings By Design, Express Solutions, Customized Solutions, and/or City Partnerships Programs
State of California Professional Engineer’s (PE) License
Experience applying engineering theory including heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid flow, power systems, process design and control, materials, energy efficiency, green building principles, and energy economics.
Certification: Association of Energy Engineers Certified Energy Manager (CEM), US Green Building Council LEED ™ Accredited Professional (AP)
Experience interfacing both verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience managing multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
Strong ethics, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
Experience with effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation
Position location is posted as Irwindale, however primary location is negotiable to other Business Customer Division primary work locations (Rancho Cucamonga, Santa Ana, Tulare, Ventura, and Westminster)
